Derby County's main rivals are Nottingham Forest, who are based in Nottingham, a city just a few miles north-east of Derby.
Derby's luck didn't get any better and they were relegated to the Football League's Second Division for the first time in 1907, but they regained their First Division place in 1911.
Derby finished 20th in the 2003-2004 First Division campaign, but improved dramatically in the 2004-2005 season and finished 4th in the Football League Championship (the new name for the Football League First Division) and qualified for a promotion play-off spot, though lost in the semi-finals to Preston North End.

 Derby County
Derby County Football Club has a proud boast in being one of the founder members of the Football League in 1884.
In the dark days of the winter of 1983/1984, Derby County faced a winding-up order and frequent appearances in the High Court to guarantee their financial status and survival.
After escaping from that division two years later, Derby spent the early part of the 1960s struggling in the Second Division, but it was only in the later half of the decade that saw the Rams making several important signings that was to lead to the most successful decade in their history.

 Tims 92- Derby County
Derby had only just been relegated from the Premiership and everyone was expecting them to do well in this division, but we took the lead through Alex Rae and were looking the better team.
Unfortunately I didn’t get to Derby until about 2:15, so had to go more or less straight to the ground, it was a fairly long walk, although there was a steady stream of home fans, so I followed them, and got there without too many hitches.
The rest of the half was end to end, with both teams pressing for goals, and Derby thought they had taken the lead again on 30 minutes, but to our delight, it was ruled out for offside and kept the scores level at half time.

 Derby, Vermont, New England, USA
It was not until 1788 that Derby was actually chartered, the document back-dated to when the grant was made by the Legislature to Timothy Andrews (sometimes Andrus in early records) and 59 others.
Part of it was annexed to Newport in 1816 (now part of Newport city); the remainder went to Derby in 1880, resulting in Derby's unusual size and shape.
