North East Derbyshire is a local government district in Derbyshire, England.
It borders the districts of Chesterfield, Bolsover, Amber Valley and Derbyshire Dales in Derbyshire, and Sheffield and Rotherham in South Yorkshire.
The district offices are based outside the district, in the town of Chesterfield, which the district surrounds on three sides, and thus acts as the shopping and work centre for much of the district.

Derbyshire Dales could now be entirely within one constituency but a number of electors need to continue to be added to the district from Amber Valley borough.
However, this is at the expense of serious change and disruption in the north east of the county, the splitting of the town of Ilkeston and the splitting of the parish of Ripley.

In the UK Government's 'indices of multiple deprivation' The town of Corby as a whole ranks within the 25% most deprived areas in England and some areas of the town are within the 5% most deprived areas[8].
The Corby constituency contains parts of traditionally Conserative East Northamptonshire that balance the traditionally Labour town of Corby leading to a marginal constituency that has gone to the party forming the national government in every general election since the creation of the constituency in 1979.
The town remains a labour stronghold because of its former steel industry and working class background whilst the rest of the county has a largely agricultural heritige and remains conservative which is also why the town remains very diverse from the rest of the county.
