Because A) those players are not going to stay at that pay level for long, B)if not youngster probably not going to stay at that play level for long and C)whatever they are doing is probably not going to be that cheap for long.
This is all predicated on the false inference that evaluating players on the basis of their contributions to team wins is "thinking like a general manager," and accordingly drags along with it all the GM's concerns.
