The GAA is sometimes accused of being a sectarian organisation, almost always by unionist politicians in Northern Ireland.
The nationalism of the GAA made its members and clubhouses particular targets for loyalist terrorists during the Troubles and up to the present-day.
On 16 April 2005 the GAA's congress voted to suspend its Rule 42 ban on "foreign games" to enable the Football Association of Ireland and the Irish Rugby Football Union to play their international fixures at Croke Park while the Lansdowne Roadstadium is being rebuilt.

Derry senior hurlers got back on the winning trail after their recent defeat by New York in the Ulster SHC semi-final when they defeated Longford in the opening round of the Nicky Rackard Cup (Section A) at Dean McGlinchey Park, Ballinascreen on Saturday 10th June winning a lively encounter by 2-14 to 0-12.
Derry were average enough during the second half of the Ulster Junior final in Ballybofey - but their first half performance was breath-taking, suggesting that there might well be celebrations in Croke Park in Septmeber if they can replicate that opening half-hour.
Derry and Antrim meet in the Ulster Minor Hurling Final on Sunday 4th June in Casement Park, Belfast and the feeling in both camps is that this decider could be the best played at this grade in recent seasons.

TWO GAA officials are under guard after receiving death threats from gunmen who say they will kill them before Sunday.
The GAA yesterday strongly condemned the threats and said the intended victims had the support of every player and committee member in the country.
One of the men said yesterday he initially thought it was a sick prank because the main loyalist groups are on ceasefire but was then told the group behind the threats had not laid down its arms.

All Gaelic games are governed by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), with the exception of Ladies´ Gaelic Football, which is governed by a separate organisation.
The GAA is organised on an all-Ireland basis with all 32 counties competing; traditionally, counties first compete within their province, in the provincial championships, and the winners then compete in the All-Ireland senior hurling or football championships.

In 2003 Ryan Feeney later a member of the Derry County Board and Development Manager for the Ulster Council was elected the first Chairman of the new Ranch Gaelic Athletic Club and served as PRO and Secretary of the Ulster Higher Education Council until 2004.
Ryan Feeney was the winner of the Inaugural Datapac GAA Administrator of the year award in 2004 for his work with John Fegan and John Haran on the Sigerson and Trench Cup which was hailed as one of best hosted ever.
Derry had never won the Ulster championship before and to go on to the All-Ireland final was a huge bonus.

The RUC are treating as malicious a fire that caused damage to a GAA clubhouse at Claudy in County Derry.
A police spokesman said that flammable liquid had been poured through a window and ignited at the Greenlough St Oliver Plunkett clubhouse sometime between 10pm on Tuesday night and 3pm yesterday afternoon.

The umpire did'nt help things by getting involved, two of my colleges approach the umpire, part of their job, to escort him of the pitch aided by at least four Slaughtneil fans who not only settled down their fans but helped to disfuse the situation.
I just hope for the sake of Derry football on a whole that this so called Seamus from Bellaghy and his two dungiven gimps are either a youngster or else mental impaired in some way.
