The Yorkshire Imperial Urquhart Travel Band is without doubt one of the jewels in the crown of the brass band movement.
The band’s first set of instruments, it is said, cost the company £2,500, but that was not their only expense because they also provided each member with two uniforms - one for the summer and one for the winter.
When the Rothwell Band and Yorkshire Imperial Band merged in 1999, the name changed again to incorporate the name of their new sponsors and became the DUT Yorkshire Imperial Rothwell Band, revised in 2002 to the shorter and more recognisable Yorkshire Imperial Urquhart Travel Band.

Lloyd Owen mentions the use of them in his book but does not describe them in any way except to say they were not standard vehicle markings but the friendly aircraft were to be briefed of their description.
The typical flimsy held four imperial gallons (about five U.S. gallons) of liquid and it was the standard container used by the British military when hostilities broke out.
As mentioned, the most common size was four Imperial gallons but two and one gallon sizes also existed.
