	Desford Colliery Band – History
		Desford Colliery Band is considered one of the world's finest exponents of the brass medium, combining British Brass Band playing with an entirely new concept of programming.
		Because of this and the fact that the majority of the players were miners the band was renamed the Desford Colliery Band.
		The Desford Band is committed to a policy that future generations will have music from this period to enjoy.

		"DESFORD, a large village, with many framework knitters, is pleasantly situated on a bold acclivity, about a mile south of the station, to which it gives its name, on the Leicester and Swannington Railway, 5 miles E. by N. of market Bosworth, and 8 miles W. by S. of Leicester.
		Desford parish, which is in Sparkenhoe Hundred, Market Bosworth Union, and that County Court District, comprises the township and the hamlet of Barrons Park, and in 1871 contained 911 persons, living in 217 houses, on 3830 acres of land.
		Desford was part of the Market Bosworth Union.

		TWO concerts played in Singapore by the Desford Colliery Band were oversubscribed.
		So, Desford were directed by Richard Adams, one of their former cornet players who now serves as head of music at one of the Singapore academic institutions.

		The Desford club must have worked very hard to get all these riders to come.
		The Desford Lane Pedallars came about after in June 1976 five people in Desford Lane in Rathy were loaned by a Mr Tony Twycross a local collector, 5 cycles to ride and display in the local village carnival, The Crow Pie.

	Desford Memory - Musical memories
		Musical memories begin sometime in the early 1930's with a wind up machine which played a circular steel disc with holes punched into the face, and nibs underneath which contacted metal ribs which in turn touched metal strips which created the sound.
		The idea of its removal after every performance was something I couldn't grasp.
		Music in Desford chapel played a vital role and was mostly organised by Mr Evans with Madge playing the organ.
