His series were known for their highly stylized format: a prologue featuring a stern-voice narrator to establish the premise; explicitly announced Acts I, II, III, and IV; and an epilogue, again featuring the narrator.
Martin started worked for Desilu Studios, but soon created his own studio, QM Productions.
He sold it in 1978 and worked as an adjunct professor at Warren College of the University of California, San Diego, but returned to QM in the 1980s to develop motion pictures.

Desilu Productions new ownership of RKO in Culver City also included the physical property of RKO's other studios that were located on Cahuenga Boulevard and Gower Street in Hollywood, right behind Paramount Pictures.
Desilu Studios was very successful and had this little Mom and Pop feeling that accompanied all who worked there.
For the television series, Roddenberry moved back to Desilu on Gower Street in Hollywood, since he didn't like the stages at the Culver lot, in particular Stage 15 had a three-foot drop on one side of the cement floor, which ran through part of Stage 16 and the stage walls were not soundproofed.

The reason the fake mountain was erected was because RKO had sets stored in the late 40's, and later in 1957 when Lucille Ball bought them out and created Desilu, she had a construction mill and sawdust collection tower built.
The reason for renumbering the Desilu stages was because Paramount had many with the same numbers and to avoid confusion this was done, once they adjoined Desilu and it became part of Paramount Studios that year.
David Dortort decided to stop filming the series at Paramount Studios at the end of the 1969-70 season because of the increase of the lot fees and also with the Janss Conejo Ranch and Iverson Ranch being fully urbanized in the valley, they could no longer do local exteriors there.
