Her use of imagery in the lyrics as well as her sultry voice make the album become a beckoning call like that of a siren.
The music is there as well, complimenting the words to a T. All of the music on the album is dark and dreary, except for when she becomes upset or enraged at the pain and torture found in loving.
The musical work on this album does an excellent job of showing the feelings Harvey is attempting to show.

The Daily Vault Album Reviews : Desire
I was curious as to what she's been up to last year when my question was answered when I saw on Midnight Oil's last release, she sat in on a song.
Desire brings a close to Bob Dylan's middle period of recordings.
With Desire, Dylan stretches and experiments with his musical range, as a result, Dylan almost creates a new breed of music:middle eastern folk.

Amazon.co.uk: Desire: Music: Bob Dylan   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-06)
Anyway, 'Desire' is now one of the best albums in my collection, and is unfairly overshadowed by 1975's 'Blood on the Tracks', the second Dylan album I heard.
The album also carries a gypsy vibe, in part thanks to the Rolling Thunder Revue of 1975, a travelling medicine show with a number of highly regarded musicians including Dylan, Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell.
But the rest of the album doesn't quite live up to these three collective centerpieces, although both "One More Cup Of Coffee" (which benefits from the vocals of a young Emmylou Harris) and "Hurricane" are great songs as well.

 |::: CHAPTER ONE: DESIRE :::|
My cd came with 3 ruby diamantes down the spine of the jewel case, and a sprinkling of loose seed pods in the clear gap that is visible on the cover (seeds of desire perhaps?!).
Desire sets the mood perfectly, and is probably the strongest track, although my personal favourite is Moment Vs. Tomorrow, with it's trickling keys and soulful trumpet arrangement (Ephraim Owens).
Chapter One: Desire is without a doubt, poetry in motion, and a must on your frequent rotation list.

Desire is in my opinion the most perfect album of all times.
Catchy melody, but the lyrics are not up to the standard of the rest of the album, even if you look upon it as a satire of the civil war in Mozambique.

Since their last studio album, the band have also released the Karnataka Live In Concert DVD (Classic Rock Legends (UK) CRL 0939, 2002) which was recorded live at London's The Mean Fiddler on 27 October 2001.
The album is equally strong instrumentally with guitar, bass and rich keyboard effects effectively underscored by crisp percussion.
While the majority of the material on the album has been played in front of live audiences with evolving arrangements before the release, several of the studio versions are positively surprising.

For me, "Desire" has always been the quintessential Dylan album (and yes, though they are all on CD now I will always refer to a Dylan release as an ALBUM, thank you...).
Whereas the versions on the live album move at a lively and invigorating tempo, here they are almost dirge-like in their pace.

rock-city.co.uk ::: VEX RED - Start with a Strong Persistent Desire (album)
Forget Nu-Metal, this album is distinctively British, and is a reminder of the bare knuckled rock that bands like Magnum used to produce, combined with layered electronics.
For the first half of the album, the band wheel out raw angst driven vocals, which are wrapped around power chords and a heavy bass that rattles your spine.
This isn’t however a straightforward album, and the second half of the album sees the template start to crack.

Apart from the music you hear on the album, other songs and pieces were written between the release of The Storm and the recording of DFOD but didn’t make it on to the album for various reasons.
The opening track "Karnataka" is like a calling card for the band on this album, building up from the opening keys to bring the whole sound of the band together as the other instruments bring their own colours to the picture.
Jon: While the songs on DFOD are still different in live performance the new album is certainly closer to the live sound of the band in terms of the energy and dynamics of the recording.

Suzanne Vega : Nine Objects of Desire - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
Under the guidance of producer Mitchell Froom, who produced 99.9 F° and married her shortly after that album was completed, Suzanne Vega continues to explore more textured and vaguely experimental musical territory on Nine Objects of Desire.
Vega's songs manage to cut through the murky production more often than not, and while the album doesn't boast her most consistent set of songs, they are on the whole stronger than the ones on her previous record.
The songs on Nine Objects of Desire are more classically structured and inviting than the ones on its predecessor -- it is only the production that keeps the listener at a distance.

DeVille sounds like a man resurrected, digging as deep as the cavernous recesses of the human heart will allow him to on "Empty Heart"; he brings down the house roaring on "All in the Name of Love," with its forlorn but anthemic refrain underscored by Dr.
The New Orleans street jazz on "Voodoo Charm" throws a curve to the emotionally intense contents with a backbone slip rhythm and popping horns in a slow stroll.
The wasted rock & roll junkie may have been resurrected from the dead by music (unlike his neighbor Johnny Thunders), but the darkness that informed that soul graces this music with a ragged elegance and tough grace.

Is This Desire? by P.J. Harvey CD
She is possessed of a rage that is finely focused, and an artistic sensibility that injects her music with a disarming, highly literate edge.
finds Harvey delivering on the promise of her earlier albums: without losing any of the rage of her earlier, more guitar-driven work, she further refines her psychotic tales of obsession and despair, all the while laying down a sonic groundwork which is always experimental and unexpected, including a heavy dose of electronica.
Harvey's trademark whisper-to-a-scream vocal style is present throughout IS THIS DESIRE.
