Topic: Desmond Thompson

  R. W. Thompson: Churchill and Morton - The Churchill Centre
Sir Desmond Morton was a friend of Churchill’s from 1917 until the end of the Second World War, but perhaps the period of his greatest influence and importance was in the years immediately preceding that war.
Thompson professed to be searching for the "real Churchill" to offset the "mythical" or "legendary" man that he believed most writers had foisted on the reading public.
Thompson’s stated purpose was an assessment of Churchill and his impact on our times; to "discover the man." Yet he seems consciously or otherwise to have attempted to psychoanalyze him.

Gerry Mulligan by Craig Hanley - Paul Desmond   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
Desmond's reluctance to again get involved in the wearing business of playing publicly was in reaction to the logistics of his career with the Dave Brubeck Quartet, a seventeen-year round airplanes, hotels, clubs, concerts, receptions, unpredictable meals, and, to put it mildly, irregular hours.
Desmond's curiosity is endless, his conversations stimulating, his ability to see through to the center of an issue - or a person - as amazing as his tolerance.
