The Starlite Desperation - Go Kill Mice (Flapping Jet) - Drawer B Review
Go Kill Mice is The Starlite Desperation's second album, but the band has a slew of singles under its belt on GSL records.
Dante Adrian's reverb-drenched vocals attack each song with rowdiness and desperation, like a young Elvis keeping pace with the singer from Clawhammer.
By: Eric G. The Starlite Desperation plays stripped down, blood and guts rock music without any cheesy effects or pretense.

Frontman Gerard Way wields a voice that rivals Rickley's own in terms of desperation, while the band lays it down on the record as if it was their last night (as humans) on earth.
Well, if you think I'm going to bash this record, throw down everything major label and declare anything that has ever aired on MTV to be unholy, you're going to be disappointed.
But be warned: the record industry is a larger, uglier and infinitely more powerful monster than anything you've encountered so far.

went back to tried-and-true recording methods for their next album, and were still ahead of the curve as far as underground rock trends were concerned, but by virtue of desperation and an unhealthy mix of adrenaline and depression, this record simply takes the cake.
This record, co-produced by Neu!'s Michael Rother, was their first to really take advantage of their mastery of synth textures and smooth beats, almost completely removed from their early days with Conrad Schnitzler (recording as the trio, Kluster) playing Stockhausen-indebted experimental sound design.
Songs like "Lilac Angel" and "Super" could be considered straight punk, while "Spitzenqualitat" and "Cassetto" are industrial and dehumanized to the point of becoming grotesque.

In fact, "Remember Me" benefits from its new recording, as the band seems to have raised the tempo and speed with Yan's voice carrying more desperation and the rhythm section (Wood on drums and Hamilton on bass) propelling the song nicely along during its chorus.
Theirs is a rough pastoral sound, shot through with some wry humor that can be tongue-in-cheek.

Charlie Robison: Good Times - PopMatters Music Review
The songs have a sense of place, a point of reference; they are not generic, radio-driven creations, but music born of the Texas plains and the South, songs that burn with the loneliness and desperation of wide open spaces.
Charlie Robison's Good Times does not fit in well with the kind of slickly produced records one is likely to hear on country radio these days.
The song rollicks along with an odd sense of urgency, that these good times are ephemeral, transient; Robison's baritone pushes forward atop a band that barks and roars out its own version of Texas blues.

In a succession of groups going back a decade, he’s revived the Memphis of the ’50s and ’60s — not as a style, but as the promise of a place where a bunch of disparate musical hustles meet, mingle, get mangled, and become great rock and roll.

Its first movement is all anguished desperation, the second a simple "song without words" seeking release from suffering, the scherzo convulses mournfully with a nervous trio written on the day his wife lost her sight while the finale is a radiant song of love written after her death.
The 1892 piano quartet is Herzogenberg's finest creation, coming out of the heartbreak of watching his wife die of a heart condition over several months in Italy where they had gone for health reasons on both their parts.
The second quartet is from 1981 and is similarly tightly controlled, sharing an all'Ungherese-type scherzo with the first but its finale has chase-like feel to it which recalls the style of Rózsa's scoring of his film noir soundtracks.

Maxïmo Park don't use their forebears as stepping stones out of creative desperation; it's a mark of their business savvy.
There are two kinds of rock bands: Those who discovered the music first, and those who spent their allowance on leather and had nothing left for records.
Maxïmo Park leave their grubby prints on each track, be it the teeth-grinding squall riding atop "Signal & Sign"'s second verse or the synths and organs lurking merrily underneath every song like a loner kid who snuck in to the dance party.

Projektor: Red Wolf Glass - PopMatters Music Review
Endearing Records seems to be on a mission to keep the spirit and substance of mid-'90s rock alive and kicking into the new millennium.
Their debut CD, Red Wolf Glass, is a dark, swarming, guitar pop opus--quiet songs of desperation and loneliness peek their heads out here and there from behind the opaque fuzz of the rhythm section.
Projektor, on the other hand, want very much to be where those bands left off, instead of wanting to go one step further, and take their music where those bands never went before.

Rodó's 1957 symphony is an entirely different matter: written in response to the death of Sibelius, this is a work of bleached color and concealed desperation - not unlike the post-war music of the Darmstadt composers except that Rodó's language remains resolutely tonal.
Wilde's theme of nature vs. culture is perfectly mirrored in the dissonant music which announces the arrival of the ugly dwarf at the palace of the Infanta while her retainers dance archaic, stylized dances.
To write an epic symphony lasting over an hour in a basically tonal idiom in the current musical climate requires a certain boldness of a composer; that and an intense, and intensely personal, vision and a message burning to be put across.

That is, if the US declared a gold confiscation, this would be heard by the rest of the world as an act of desperation, a declaration that the US is in such dire financial condition that it is resorting to private property confiscation, hence a sell-off in the dollar.
