		Born in Kalanor, Despero became the absolute leader of his people, mostly thanks to her third eye, for he was a mutant, dominating his world using his hipnotic powers on the population.
		Since Despero didn't play fair, Flash lost and the JLA was teleported to alien worlds and left there to die, but using their powers, they returned and vanquished Despero, giving him to the kalanorians to be judged.
		Despero got free of his robotic body and started to run around in a ghostly state in search of a powerful body to host him and provide revenge from the heroes.

	Despero
		Just after Despero was born, his father killed his mother; and a short time later, Despero killed his father, leaving him the sole ruler of the planet for nearly a century.
		In their second encounter, Despero and the Justice League clashed over a series of alternate Earths that Despero had created for the sole purpose of conquering.
		Despero immediately raced to Earth, where he began systematically tracking down the Justice League, intending to murder them all.

		If people believe that Despero would be able to at least get a vague indication of their location from Stryfe and Psimon using the immense amount of telekinetic power it'd take to bat Proctor around like that in the futile hope that they'll kill him somehow, they'll decide it makes sense.
		Despero's had his psychic abilities for a very long time, before he ever had the enhanced strength, speed, durability, and regenerative power he relies primarily on now.

		It's in the middle of the fight between J'onn and Despero that the the Big Red Space Dude reaches into the Martian's mind and throws him back to his family's last day, which now features Despero as the cause of his wife and child's death.
		Despero is basically the evil version of J'onn when it comes to brute strength and mental powers, and the writers know how to use that effectively.
		Guy knocks Despero into Long Island Sound with a giant green fist2 and the rest of the League finally plays catchup just as Despero decides that he wants to see the selection at Midtown Comics before grabbing a bite in the Village.

		The "Mayavana" (as J'onn himself named it in that same story) was not a "mind trick", but an special martian mental power that required such concentration that it could be used only ONCE in life.
		This is the same story in which Despero killed all of Gypsy's family (her parents and brother).
		She survived because she arrived home later and realized Despero was in there just in time to escape and be luckily found by J'onn.
