Functioning Form - Wayfinding in Tokyo: Local Context and Direction Map Design
As with all map design, the goal is an optimized information resolution, with as much detail as necessary to get the user to their destination with confidence and without incident, and not a bit more.
The degree to which train-goers’ mental model can be mirrored in map design is dependent on the diversity of the target audience and the diversity of paths by which they reach the destination.
This balancing skill is well tested by map design, in which the whims of city planners, nature, and countless other influences on the landscape must be filtered and clarified into a device that fosters success, while accommodating failure.

A Contrast in Urban Design, by Jeffrey Veen
Roads and highways were designed with the goal of moving vehicles most efficiently, using metrics like average speed and minutes per trip as a gauge of success.
There are subtle design cues such as pathway intersections or semi-circles of benches that allow a comfortable mix of private space and random interaction.
I was staying in the Old Town district of Boulder, and it's a case study in human scale, livable urban design.

Online TDM Encyclopedia - Universal Design
Universal design should be comprehensive, meaning that it results in seamless mobility options from origin to destination for the greatest possible range of potential users.
Universal Design shifts more of the burden from the individual to the community; rather than assuming that people must accommodate to the built environment, it assumes that the built environment should accommodate all users as much as feasible.
A basic concept for Universal Design is that people’s Mobility and Accessibility are largely determined by the built environment, that is, the design of buildings, sidewalks, paths, roads and vehicles.

 Road - Encyclopedia.WorldSearch
A road is a strip of land connecting two or more destination s.
Roads situated in cities are often, but not always, called streets or alley s; this reflects the historical fact that when they were first named there were more likely to be unmade roads in open country and paved roads in urban areas.
Road building and maintenance is one of the few areas of economic activity (compare military spending) that remain dominated by the public sector (though often through private contractor s).

User Demographics (Topic at Usable Web)
Instead of experimenting with sophisticated new designs, web sites would serve users better with fairly standard designs and making improvements 'behind the scenes': better writing or algorithms, more sophistication on the server side.
Surveys of Internet users can help design for the "common denominator".
Also, users are now upgrading browsers slower than in the past, so new technology will not get in users' hands as fast as before.

Attack of the 50 Foot DVD: Destination Moon (1950)
Unlike a lot of its progeny, Destination Moon was shot in Technicolor, and the print's colors are quite tasty, especially those color-coded space suits.
The spate of sci-fi films that followed are almost all variations on Destination Moon 's theme, adding monsters, beautiful babes, or various sinister aliens.
If one requires these in their sci-fi, then one should look elsewhere; therefore, I can only recommend Destination Moon to SF purists and historians - it may be a tad too dry for anyone else.

Movie Review for Final Destination 3
Final Destination 3 continues onward with a premise that’s already been covered adequately by the first two movies in its series as teenagers tick off death by cheating it out of their corpse.
Final Destination 3 continues onward with the same sort of clever, sudden killing, but settles for cast members who are oddly nonplussed by seeing a school chum get his head crushed.
By getting off the ride they cheated death’s design.

I saw the original Final Destination at a preview screening in Hollywood more than three years back (could it REALLY have been that long ago?), and consider it one of the best post-Scream horror films and the best of 2000.
Final Destination 2 was not at all scary, though there were some tense moments.
But like the first film, one character, Kimberly, forsees the event and manages to save a handful of the doomed, "causing a rift in Death's design." And once again, each of these survivors is visited in turn by the Grim Reaper.

 Woman in the Moon
Lang's film is simply great fun, but sandwiched between his more notorious Metropolis (1926) – which nearly bankrupted Germany's state-financed studio, Ufa, in its wild overflowing clatter of set design – and his restrained sound masterpiece, M (1931), it tends to be left out of all but the most comprehensive retrospectives.
The length of the film contributes to this desperate waiting effect, as do the sparse interior of the rocket's cabin and the bleak plains of the moonscape (both of which prefigure the taut voids of the streets from M).
In fact, there are some shocking technical miscalculations in the film, but these are suspiciously beneficial to the plot, such as the primary fantasy conceit that the moon bursts with gold ready for harvest.

 Final Destination 2
A.J. Cook stars in "Final Destination 2," a gory good show for fans of R-rated horror mayhem.
Not quite up to the relatively lofty standards of the spooky almost-classic released by New Line Cinema three years ago -- with franchise founders Glen Morgan and James Wong having moved on -- "Final Destination 2" is nonetheless a gory good show for fans of R-rated horror mayhem.
Probably headed for boxoffice grosses a few leagues north of its progenitor, "FD2" is director David R. Ellis' second feature, and it certainly relishes finding inventive ways to kill off its cast, most of whom are marked for personal demises after being caught in a "rift in death's design."
