Destination Moon (Objectif Lune) is one of a series of classic comic-strip albums, written and illustrated by Belgian writer and illustrator Hergé, featuring young reporter Tintin as a hero.
Destination Moon is the first part of one of the two multi-book stories in the Tintin series, the other being Explorers on the Moon (On a marché sur la Lune).
The rockets used in the two moon exploration Tintin albums bear a striking physical resemblance to V-2 rockets, down to the checkerboard pattern on the hull, that the V-2 designers used to measure the rolling of a rocket during test flights.

Tintin On The Moon captures the atmosphere and humour of Herge’s original brilliantly.
Tintin’s loyal pooch whose initial role as Tintin’s confidant was rather eroded by the arrival of Captain Haddock in The Crab.
Sadly, Tintin isn't your typical comic hero and instead of tying his mum's curtains around his neck and up, up and awaying to the Moon, he hitches a ride on a Professor Calculus's rocket ship.

However, be forewarned that this is the first half of the tale, which is continued in "Explorers on the Moon." So do not let the cliffhanger ending to this volume throw you for a loop.
"Destination Moon" is really the set up, for which "Explorers on the Moon" is the payoff.

Upon their return from Arabia, Tintin and Captain Haddock find that Calculus has left for Syldavia, without leaving any explanation until he wires them to join him in Syldavia.
Once there, Tintin and the captain are driven to an atomic research centre in the Zmylpathian mountains, where they meet engineer Frank Wolff and Mr Baxter, director, and of course find Calculus as well.
Tintin is shot while chasing the spies, and the trial rocket has to be blown up in flight when it begins to be controlled by a radio stronger than theirs.

What makes "Explorers on the Moon" ("On a Marche Sur La Lune") so fascinating is the documentary detail that Herge infuses into the story as Tintin walks on the moon (where he declares: "I've walked a few steps!...For the first time n the history of mankind there is an EXPLORER ON THE MOON!").
One of the chief charms of Herge's artwork has always been the way his caricature drawings of Tintin and friends are contrasted by the realistic backgrounds, and this artistic style achieves its apex when we see the spaceship approaching the moon.

This Tintin adventure has one of my favorite sequences in the entire series and it was not the cliffhanger ending with Tintin and the crew heading to the moon.

TinTin is the Don Quiotte of the 21st century.
Of course they were written in French, but that didn't stop me, I read them anyway, with the help of a English/French dictionary:) Allthough this book is in English, there is still something quite un-American about it, I think it adds to the charm.
Scrabble has been a favorite in the world of word games for generations (in fact, more than 50 years) and is still a great game to boost one's vocabulary and word power.

Just make sure you pick up Explorers on the Moon at the same time.
