Destroyer (Golden Age) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Destroyer is a fictional superhero in the Marvel Comics universe, who first appeared in the 1940s during what historians and fans call the Golden Age of comic books.
Yet the Destroyer's sleekly dark costume with a skull motif, his skintight blue mask that made him appear inhuman, and his occasional cover appearances together worked to make the character more memorable than many others of his era, and he was the company's most-published character outside the three stars and the Angel.
This Destroyer has made present-day guest appearances in such titles as Thunderbolts and Citizen V and the V-Battalion, where he was the leader of the titular V-Battalion before eventually stepping down in favour of the original Human Torch.

The Destroyer was subsequently animated by the unwilling goddess Sif in a plot by Loki and Karnilla the Norn Queen, and by Professor Clement Holmes who "entered" the Destroyer by accident.
But the Destroyer then perceived the remains of Thor, who had recently been cursed by the Asgardian death goddess Hela, for a humilating defeat by Thor, so that he was incapable of dying, but also unable to heal from injuries.
His having plan having thus succedded, Thor revealed to Hela that his consciousness was in control of the Destroyer the whole time, and demanded that she vow to no longer take posession of the souls of the people from Earth, as she had recently done.

In Thor's case, on the first occasion that his life force animated the Destroyer, Thor's own personality was submerged beneath that of the Destroyer and only achieved control of the Destroyer after a great effort of will.
The Destroyer's consciousness will allow its animator's consciousness to work alongside it if their goals coincide; hence, when hunter Buck Franklin animated the Destroyer, his consciousness and that of the Destroyer operated as one in seeking to destroy Thor.
His plan thus having worked, Thor revealed to Hela that he was still in full control of the Destroyer and demanded that she vow to no longer take possession of the souls of Earth people, as she had recently done.

However the Wreckers celebrations are cut short when Thor uses his lightening on the villain (which we see melting the girder), the blast stuns the Wrecker and as he falls Thor catches him with a Mjolnir uppercut which knocks him into the central pillars and the whole buries the Wrecker.
Thor goes nuts and starts beating on the Destroyer with his fists, even managing to topple the monster, but at that point he reverts to human form, and the Destroyer levels its disintigration at Donald Blake (who is for a moment amazed he can breathe in space) and exclaims "Die".
Thor should be the winner of the final battle (or you should change the sequence so the battle with the Destroyer is in the middle {so we can meet Odin and see his majesty} and the final battle is with the empowered Wrecking Crew which Thor can win on his own).

At this time, Thor was unaware of the Destroyer's true purpose, and in exchange for Firelord's freedom as Galactus' herald, he gave the armor to Galactus to use in his place.
Thor took control of the robot, however, and used it to attack the underworld's ruler, Hela, who had placed the curse on him.
Thor promptly sealed the armor within virtually unbreakable crystal so that it could not be reanimated for evil purposes, leaving it in Hela's realm to serve as a reminder of her promise to Thor, never to take a soul of Earth's mortals.

Thor would probably fight hand to hand for a while because that's his style but eventually he'd wise up and unleash the full fury of the Odinforce on Marv.
Thor's also much stronger physically than Marv but that's not much use given the fact that fights between cosmic characters tend to end up as energy slugfests 9 times out of 10.

When the Destroyer armor arrives at the hospital with Tarene (the new Thor-Girl) trapped inside it, we see Thor is freed from his mortal shell, and is ready to drop the hammer on the rampaging Destroyer.
On the side of the equation, I've never found the Destroyer to be all that interesting an opponent for Thor, as despite it's ability to kill a god, in the end all it is a big, super-strong robot.
The shot of the Destroyer on it's rampage does have some perspective problems as on the one-page spread it looks to be several stories tall, while on the following pages it's roughly the same size as Thor, but this is a minor detail.
