Detective Keith Casey, dubbed a four-star general in the city’s war on graffiti, was laid to rest last Friday in All Faith Cemetery in Glendale, not far from the 104th Precinct headquarters where he made his name as an anti-graffiti innovator.
Casey also organized the city’s first anti-graffiti conference at Baruch College in the 1990s, and became the face for the city’s war on the problem when he appeared on the cover of the Daily News in 1994, escorting “million-dollar vandal” Robert Morrisey from the Catalpa Avenue stationhouse.
Casey was a first-responder in the rescue effort of Septeber 11, 2001, and in recent years had been volunteering his off-duty time tutoring young people.
