Detective Comics - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Detective Comics is a comic book published by DC Comics since 1937.
It is, along with Action Comics (the book that launched with the debut of Superman), one of the company's best-known titles - in fact, the "DC" in the company's name comes from "Detective Comics".
However, the fame of Detective Comics was assured by issue #27 (May 1939), which featured the first appearance of Batman (as "The Bat-Man").

eBay Guides - Comics Buying Guide
Comics evolved from newspaper comic strips and were first sold as comic books during the early 1930s, ushering in the platinum age.
Detective Comics focused on crime and suspense stories and would eventually be the title to introduce us to Batman.
Comic book values typically depend on a number of factors, including how hard to find a particular issue is and the condition of the comic book.

DC Comics - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Despite the official names National Comics and National Periodical Publications, the logo "Superman-DC" was used throughout the line, and the company known colloquially as DC Comics for years before the official adoption of that name.
With the growing popularity of upstart rival Marvel Comics threatening to topple DC from its longtime number-one industry position, he attempted to infuse the company with new titles and characters, and recruited major talents such as Steve Ditko and promising newcomers such as Neal Adams.
Their superhero-team comic, which was superficially similar to Marvel's ensemble series X-Men, earned significant sales in part due to the stability of the creative team, who kept with the title for years.

ImageTexT: Exhibits: Exhibit 1: DC, Detective Comics
DC Comics was the leading publisher of comics during the first three decades of the comic book industry and is credited with being largely responsible for the look and content of mainstream American comic books.
Thus, when the Comics Code was adopted in 1954 (to self-police and self-censor comics publishers), the content of DC was scarcely affected.
DC Comics was diversified and published in a variety of genres, including science fiction, humor, romance, westerns, war, mystery, and adaptations of popular television programs and movie star comics (such as Jerry Lewis and Bob Hope).

Don Markstein's Toonopedia: Roy Raymond, TV Detective
Roy Raymond, TV Detective, spent his entire decade-long career in the back pages of DC Comics' Detective Comics, which, dominated by the presence of Batman, never showed and seldom mentioned him on the cover.
In Detective Comics #293 (July, 1961), Roy was replaced by Aquaman, who had just been squeezed out of Adventure Comics, and wasn't heard from again for years.
He did turn up in the 500th issue of Detective Comics (March, 1981), as part of a crowd of minor stars from that title's past (including Pow Wow Smith, Captain Compass, The Human Target, and others equally unlikely to appear in the same story).

Speed Saunders, a Golden Age Detective Comics Hero
The detection elements are not as logically constructed as they should be, however: Speed identifies the criminal by a hunch, rather than by following a genuine clue.
The relationship between detective Speed and young Jim Hilton here reminds one of a similar relationship between District Attorney Steve Malone and the murdered man's son in Gardner Fox's "The Van Dorn Murder Case" (Detective Comics #26, April 1939).
Detective Comics often published covers that were unrelated to any of the stories in the issue.

As I stated previously, this isn't the easiest comic or arc to read, but I give it a nod for attempting to infuse elements of complexity that, under better circumstances, would enhance a good detective story rather than detract from it.
On a comic book shelf populated by the forceful superhero grandeur of Jim Lee, the beautiful near-realism of Bryan Hitch, or the gritty street-level pencils of Alex Maleev, it would be very forgivable to pass on Ramon Bachs.

Shiny Shelf's writer-of-the-moment, Ed Brubaker, carries over into 'Tec' his interest in the haunted pasts of his characters from his run on 'Batman', but is now allowed to play with the procedural aspects that are strictly rationed in that title.
The result is a greater 'cops and capes' feel to the stories, and a writer hitting his stride with one of comics' most iconic characters.
'Detective Comics' even has a back up strip, the surreally SF-minded 'Spore', as well as covers by Tim Sale.
