DeTour Area Schools is located in the eastern part of Chippewa County, is a Class D school district, in the most eastern part of Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

The pleasure of having a restored DeTour Reef Light accessible to the public will be exceeded by the experience of working with people who had the vision, perseverance and dedication to years of work to make the restoration happen.
Therefore, the DRLPS refers to DeTour as a light, not a lighthouse, even though it was a ‘lighthouse’ and keepers lived in the station.

Michigan Department of Transportation and Road Commission of Oakland County officials said the intersection will be reconstructed to prohibit left turns from M-59 onto Bogie Lake Road.
The detour route is Whipple, Washington and Liberty roads.
Baldwin Road, between Clarkston and Indianwood roads in Orion Township, will be closed June 14 to about Aug. 2 so the road commission can reconstruct the intersection of Baldwin, Indianwood and Coats roads as a roundabout.

Michigan Lighthouse Conservancy and Gull Rock Lightkeeper's Association are applying for the Gull Rock Lighthouse through the National Lighthouse Preservation Act.
The Upper Entry Lighthouse and Coast Guard keepers quarters on the Keweenaw Peninsula in Michigan's Upper Peninsula on Lake Superior was destroyed by fire on the morning of April 9, 2003.
“As a part of the grant we received from the State of Michigan, we are in the process of hiring an architectural firm to conduct a comprehensive study on the lighthouse and the catwalk,” she said.

Since the Michigan Lighthouse Assistance Program was established in 1999, the State Historic Preservation Office has awarded grants annually to promote the preservation of these historic maritime buildings.
With its second MLAP grant, the Charlevoix Historical Society will address moisture problems by repairing the roof, windows and doors; add drainage holes; replace two windows; install louvered grates in the floor; install metal flashing where needed; and repair warping steel plate skin on the exterior.
Grant funds will be used to remove and replace the copper upper deck and railing on the lighthouse tower; scrape and paint the tower; and replace glass in the lantern room.
