I spend lots of time in Detroit and Ferndale talking to people and I wanted the track too, but people that dont like racing and think its going to cause traffic and noise problems dont listen when they think their property values are going to suffer.
Many people assume that because its Detroit its just burnt out slums and while the city has way more than its share of decay, having lived there most of my childhood and most of my adult life I can assure you this is not the case.

 Film Forum's Noir Fest: Thunder Road - Cinematical
Film Forum's inexplicable decision to include the strange and wonderful film Thunder Road in their six-weeklong festival of film noir did not diminish the fun of seeing it on the big screen for the first time.
Fan literature on Thunder Road is heavy on the authenticity of the film's car details, and we know, for example, that actual moonshine tankers -- cars partially hollowed out on the inside so that they could be filled to the fins with booze for transport -- were commandeered for use in the film.
Maybe I'm being too generous to Thunder Road, but there are few highs to compare to finally seeing a film you've known for twenty years on the big screen, the way it was meant to be seen.

When telling her Dallas friends she was going to Thunder Bay, the first thing they did was look at the map, and then concluded, "Of course they have the blues.
Saturday and Sunday afternoons both started with the Thunder Bay Blues All-Stars, a pretty solid assortment of local blues musicians whose longstanding love of the blues made it pretty clear onstage that Thunder Bay is a serious blues town.

"Detroit 9000" is the "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" of Blaxploitation, in that it goes beyond the genre but still keeps the mainstays intact.
During the time of production, "9000" was the Detroit Police radio code for "officer down," however that radio term was phased out by the early 1980s.
