 Detroit Tigers on Baseball Almanac
The Detroit Tigers played their first Major League game on April 25, 1901.
The Tiger franchise was electrified in 1905 with the arrival of Tyrus Raymond Cobb, a once-in-a-generation ballplayer, who over the next twenty-four seasons (the last two with Philadelphia) would win twelve batting titles, nine of them consecutively.
The next significant personnel move for the Tigers was the acquisition of Mickey Cochrane from the Philadelphia A's in 1933.

The Tigers wore hand-me-down uniforms from the Reds and played their home games at Crosley Field, often outdrawing the Reds.
Houston was a 23-game winner and Partlow played for 16 seasons, but Moss, a submariner who went a remarkable 35-8 in 1936, had perhaps the most promise until his life was cut short by a stray bullet in July 16, 1944.
