Besides, Hindi is written in Devnagari script, while Urdu is written in a modified form of the Arabic script.
The transliteration shows each consonant to end in 'a' : this is because in the absence of any other vowel sign, the Devnagari consonant is followed by an inherent 'a' sound (pronounced like the 'a' in 'majority'), unless it occurs at the end of the word, when it is not pronouced, or is silenced.
Thus each Devnagari character represents a syllable, and the totality is strictly speaking a 'syllabary' rather than an 'alphabet'.

The best way to write in Hindi/Marathi (Devnagari) on a Windows 2000 or newer systems is to install the Indic Support.
It takes some time to learn but make it a point to type a few lines in Devnagari everyday and in a month or so you can get used to it.
I prefer Marathi Keyboard because Marathi uses western style punctuation so that is default (like the period etc. instead of dandak etc in Hindi) and decimal numbers are in Devnagari by default.

i am trying to sort devnagari unicode char in ascending order in MS excel.all goes well except क्ष, त्र, ज्ञ.these letters should come at last.but they dont's get sorted properly.also i am making a hindi software in vb.net using ms-access database.
also i tried doing the devnagari numeral calculation.but it gives me like १+ १= 0.i guess it doesn;t recognize devnagai unicode numbers as english num.
This site uses Unicode for non-English characters and uses Open Type fonts.
