  Dewsbury Information
The parish of Dewsbury extended east of the Pennines to encompass Huddersfield, Mirfield and Bradford.
Dewsbury's boundaries were expanded to include the urban districts of Ravensthorpe, Thornhill, Soothill Nether and half of Soothill Upper in 1910 and it was elevated to county borough status in 1913.
John Rudd, the Tudor cartographer, was vicar of Dewsbury and rector of Thornhill.

DEWSBURY, a market-town, parish, and township in the West Riding of the county of York, in the wapentake's of Aggbrigg and Morley, and in the liberty and manor of Wakefield.
Dewsbury was the centre from which Christianity was diffused through this part of the island in Saxon times.
