Dewsbury is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom.
It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election.
For the purposes of the next General Election, Dewsbury has lost the traditionally Labour-voting ward of Heckmondwike, but gained the more Conservative-voting ward of Denby Dale, a move which is set to increase the chances of a Conserative victory.

Tommy Sheridan, a member of the autonomous Scottish parliament, said the attack occurred because Muslims were being isolated and demonized by British politicians.
He blamed it on the call by the Leader of the Commons (parliament), Jack Straw, for Muslim women to remove their veils and the subsequent failure of Prime Minister Tony Blair and other ministers to condemn his remarks.

The issue of Muslim face cover was thrust into the spotlight over a week ago when former foreign secretary and leader of the House of Common Jack Straw revealed that he asked Muslim women visiting his constituency office to show their faces.
