 Inspector Morse
There are also a lot of Morse stories that were written especially for the TV series, not by Dexter, but I won't go into them here since they have never been printed (and, frankly, I didn't watch more than one of them because they were not original).
Series of books just creeping along here before it was (brilliantly) selected as a TV dramatization, at which point the author became a 'golden age' phenomenon, his stories even watched by the Queen of England.
Dexter sometimes re-uses variations of the same plot element; this one reprises Last Seen Wearing and foreshadows The Way Through the Woods, but I won't say more than that.

BookkooB: The Secret of Annexe Three - Colin Dexter
In later Morse books, Dexter's style acquired some of the gloss and subtlety of the TV series; but this is an early work, its contrived plot padded out with pompous description and lengthy half-page asides about Oxford geography.
Once again Colin Dexter's legendary skill in planting clues for the reader is on display to the full - he loves using clues planted in lists and in incongruous looking letters.
If you want to see where I think Dexter seems to have got his idea, watch Dan Ackroyd's performance in 'Trading Places'...or Al Jolson in 'The Jazz Singer'.This story is THAT bad- Slack, sloppy, and deeply insulting.

Inspector Morse - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Detective Chief Inspector Endeavour Morse is a fictional character, who features in a series of thirteen detective novels by British author Colin Dexter, though he is better known for the TV series produced by Central Independent Television from 1987–2000.
In November 2005, the Jaguar Mark 2 car used in the television series sold for more than GBP 100,000 [2].
Dexter killed Morse in his last book, and has thus far shown no sign of resurrecting him—unlike Arthur Conan Doyle, who killed his main character only to bring him back to life.

MYSTERY!: Ron Miller's Case Book: Farewell John Thaw
Though quite common in the U.S., where the stars of long-running TV series often begin to "take over" their show, that move was extremely rare in British television.
Thaw also had great respect for Dexter and took pride that "his descriptions of the character in the later books are actually descriptions of me." When Dexter finally decided to reveal Morse's never-before-disclosed first name -- Endeavor -- one of the first persons he told it to was John Thaw.
Thaw's influence was felt when the series took cameras away from England to film certain episodes abroad -- one in Italy, another in Australia.

But interestingly enough, the idea for both TV shows originated in the imagination of one man, Genndy Tartakovsky, the versatile cartoonist responsible for Cartoon Network's first original series as well as it's latest foray into the action-adventure genre.
Deriving his name from the slang that stunned bystanders use when they witness his spectacular arrival in the future, Samurai Jack sets out on a series of adventures to overthrow Aku, who rules this strange world with an iron fist.
Dexter's hi-tech shennanigans bear no resemblance to Samurai Jack's hyper-stylized warrior ways, and as far as nemeses go, Aku and Dee Dee are like night and day.
