Dexter Remmick is a character in the fictional Star Trek universe played by Robert Schenkkan.
Lieutenant commander Dexter Remmick was an officer of the Inspector General's office when he beamed aboard the Enterprise-D on stardate 41461.2 (2364 in the modern calendar) with Admiral Gregory Quinn to conduct a thorough investigation of the ship, under Quinn's orders.
It was determined that he hosted the parasitic mother creature, and he was killed by heavy phaser blast on the part of Picard and Riker, who subsequently destroyed the mother creature, which in turn killed all the other parasites as well.

Because Quinn suspects the existence of certain conspiracies within Starfleet, he finds it necessary to launch investigations of certain personnel, to determine whether they are participating in any insubordinate activities.
After Remmick reports—with Picard present—that he has uncovered nothing of importance about Picard, Quinn offers to promote Picard to the rank of Admiral and give him a high position at Starfleet Academy, an offer which Picard refuses.
The manner in which Quinn calls upon Remmick to make his final report might be interpreted as an error in the script: in the same scene, just moments before Remmick makes the report, Quinn indicates to Picard that Remmick is almost—the clear implication is not quite yet—ready to report his findings (Fries & Vejar, 1988).

In an even bigger surprise, when Quinn arrives, he is deadly serious and is accompanied by his aide, Lt. Commander Dexter Remmick, from the Inspector General's office, whose job is to find out exactly ``what is wrong on this ship.'' Remmick starts his questioning with Riker, asking him about Picard.
Later, Remmick is on the bridge when a crisis comes up: Wes's friend Jake Kurland, whom he just beat to become the Enterprise's candidate for the Academy, steals a shuttle in embarrassment, and the shuttle becomes unbalanced, sending Jake towards Relva.
Remmick is abashed to admit that he could not find anything wrong with the ship, or with Captain Picard, and Quinn dismisses him to tell Picard the real reason for this investigation.

 Pollux - Memory Alpha
Pollux (also known as Beta Geminorum) is a star (spectral class K0IIIb) which is in Federation space, about 33.7 light-years from Sol and the primary of the Pollux system.
Beta Geminorum was mentioned as a small note on a very large star chart graphic created for TNG:"Conspiracy." It was the image behind the chair in the room where Dexter Remmick was killed.
It's probably best not to examine the distance values on that chart very closely, as it portrays Pollux IV as being several star systems away from Beta Geminorum, the star it supposedly orbits.
