The important rivers in the northern part of the state are the Tlawng (Dhaleshwari), the Tuirial (Sonai), and the Tuivwal, which flow northwards and fall in the Barak river in Cachar district in Assam.
These three rivers, particularly the Dhaleshwari, are navigable for considerable stretches.
In the southern part of the state the Chhimtuipui (Kolodyne) is an important river having four tributaries- the Mat, the Tuichang, the Tyao and the Tuipui.

A 'garment village' will be set up alongside the Dhaleshwari River in Narayanganj with financial assistance from the World Bank.
The government and the World Bank are likely to sign a deal to this effect by June this year under which the bank will give US$ 150 million to develop infrastructure for the proposed village.
He said the government is contemplating to set up the 'garment village' alongside Dhaleshwari at Gozaria upazila in Narayanganj, some 30km off the capital city.

BSS, Dhaka, September 22: Communications Minister Barrister Nazmul Huda on Tuesday blamed the last Awami League government for collapse of approach roads of two bridges on the Dhaka-Mawa National Highway.
"The slopes of the approach roads collapsed as the Awami League government hurriedly inaugurated the bridge-1 and the bridge-2 over the Dhaleshwari river to indulge in corruption andgain cheap-popularity," he said.
While visiting the collapsed portions of the slopes, the minister asked the engineers of the Roads and Highways to repair those on an emergency basis.
