Dhardo Rimpoche died on 24th March 1990, at the age of 73.
And it was in the course of that period that I received from Rimpoche the Bodhisattva ordination.
Well, Rimpoche’s message is to be found in the motto he gave his school, in the motto he caused in fact to be inscribed on the school flag — a motto in just seven words in English.

Who this 'self' might be is, of course, open to interpretation (interpretation by circumstances, which change all the time); to expansion (how often we limit ourselves); and thus consequently to revision.

Where the two men and their teachings differ however is that, whereas Govinda was to all intents and purposes harmless and his ideas quaint, Sangharakshita and his ideas have proved themselves to be harmful and represent a serious threat to the existence of genuine Dharma throughout the Western world.
Perhaps this was why Sangharakshita felt his receipt of the Bodhisattva vow from Dhardo Rinpoche was of such immense "spiritual significance": it was clearly the first time in all of the years that he had been taking the Bodhisattva vows that he actually realized he was receiving them.
Rimpoche explained that through this initiation he had transmitted to Sangharakshita the essence of all the teachings of all the gurus in the thangka.
