Marcus Opellius Antoninus Diadumenianus or Diadumenian, Roman Caesar (junior emperor), died 218 A.D. was the son of Emperor Macrinus who served his father briefly as Caesar (junior emperor) from May, 217 to 218 A.D. and as Augustus in 218.
Diadumenian was declared to be co-ruler by his father in 218, during the Severan Dynasty, where he is remembered by the name Diadumenianus.

 Macrinus and Diadumenian
Given his supposed honour there may have been a degree of guilt experienced by Macrinus as it is said that he sent a message of condolence to Julia Domna, Severus' widow an mother of the murdered Caracalla, on the other hand it could be just a cynical ploy to further distance himself from the assassination.
Diadumenian also evolves in his appearence and this is quite noticeable in the civic coins struch for him.

 Diadumenian - bstorage.com
The section of the HA covering this period between is full of contradictions and fabrications; and its author had a clear motive for a negative report on Macrinus.
In this inscription, Diadumenian appears only as Caesar, not Augustus, showing that the title of Augustus was not bestowed on him (by senate, soldiers, or Macrinus) at the same time as Caesar, proving (a rare thing for Roman history studes) Eutropius wrong and Victor right on at least this count.
This inscription must date to late May of the year 218, when, after Julia Maesa had succeeded in spreading the rumor that Elagababus was in fact Carracalla's son, and thus could claim to be emperor, when Macrinus and Diadumenian were executed, and the obliteration of their names was likely ordered by the Severan women.

All of the Imperial coinage of Macrinus and Diadumenian was struck in Rome, and since neither of them ever returned to Rome during their reign the portraits used must have been made by artists in the East and sent back to be used as models by the die cutters.

At the same time, he was given the additional name Antoninus, Caracalla’s formal name, in an attempt to mollify the soldiers and conceal Macrinus’s role in his predecessor’s murder.
By all accounts, Diadumenian was a handsome lad of good character who might have made an excellent ruler had he ever exercised true power.
Macrinus responded by raising Diadumenian to the rank of Augustus and promising the Praetorian Guard an accession bonus of 20,000 sesterces per man. But the rebel forces were victorious outside the walls of Antioch on June 8, and the rest of Macrinus' army abruptly switched sides save for a few holdouts.

 Diadumenian
While most reference works examining the output of Roman provincial coinage usually consider the mint as the axel around which other factors turn, that was not an approach which appealed to me, as my interest lay in examining the iconography of Diadumenian across the Roman influenced world.
Published works are, of course, invaluable and where appropriate have been referenced, but these references are disparate and it is expensive to obtain a complete listing for Diadumenian from current sources as there are often only a few relevant coins in each publication.
There are sometimes subtle differences in the design of the reverse that some may class as varients, others may class as a different type.

Ancient coins, even though they were struck by hand - for that matter, perhaps because they were - experienced minting errors as do modern coins.
Coins were often struck slightly to significantly shifted from the center of the planchet, though, as seen on this Diadumenian provincial, only one face is off-center.
The Æ3 of Constantine (left) was struck fairly well centered on the planchet, in contrast with the Constantinopolis commemorative (right) which is almost completely off the planchet.
