It is not a bad book - Diana Palmer is a terrific writer - and I will re-read it, but I will do so keeping in mind that it is less a love story and more a dramatic tale with some love scenes in it.
Palmer was under a deadline or just didn't care enough about the characters to put her heart and talent into the writing and plot development.
As per usual, Palmer strikes at the heart of readers with her pleasure-pain emotions where the heroine is hurt terribly by the ruthless guy.

Diana Palmer is an absolutely amazing writer, and I personally envy her talents!
Diana Palmer used to be one of my favorites, but most of her recent books have been the same- blah blah downtrodden heroine, blah blah rich handsome cowboy, blah blah amorphous and random Texas references.
I love Diana Palmer, so I read all her books, but lately she has gotten into telling more than one story in a book, this is too bad.

Amazon.ca: The Texas Ranger: Books: Diana Palmer   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-02)
Palmer's fans are drawn to her macho cowboy heroes, but Marc's off-putting jokes about Josette needing "minor surgery" and his demands that she get therapy so that she'll stop being "sexless" are aggravating.
Her provactive style that focused not so much on sex but instead on the intimacies and sexual tension of two people was refreshing.
It seemed like an annoyingly obviously way to keep the heroine a virgin.) to Josette letting Marc back into her life after he had wrecked it over and over to the pitiful murder "mystery" which was really no mystery, this was a disappointment.

This is like most Diana Palmer books, with the young, innocent heroine and the older, roughened hero, except in one major way.....the hero is a virgin too!
While most of Diana Palmers' books follow with a young, innocent heroine and an older, more experienced and/or hardened hero, this one falls way short.
Palmer should try writing about adults on equal footing and finally give us a love story between a man and a woman not a man and a girl.
