 Diane Duane - Uncyclopedia
Diane Duane was born on the 18th day of May in 1592, a Year of the Fruitbat, on the upper east side of Nieuw Amsterdam, a small town in France.
Her floating cradle (or coracle or curragh or croghan or whatever it was) fetched up outside the waterside cottage of the crotchety but brilliant Wayland Smith, farrier to the Gods, swordsmith to the gentry, friend to those who need a friend, enemy to those who require an enemy...oh, you get the drift.
Nonetheless Diane's heart was filled instantly with the desire of dragons, and the thought of what she might do with one were she but left alone with it for long enough (for she had heard the thing about dragons and maidens, you betcha).

 The Wizard's Dilemma--Diane Duane
Long before Harry Potter boarded the train to Hogwart's School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Diane Duane's Young Wizards were working to master the ways of magic, and fulfill the wizard's charge of fighting the forces of entropy that threaten to overtake the Universe.
It's a deservedly popular series, combining page-turning adventure, likeable characters, imaginative world building, and intelligent themes into books that are as thought-provoking as they are entertaining.
Nita's desperate quest to heal her mother and her temptation at the hands of the Lone Power are perhaps not quite so conventionally suspenseful as the world-threatening crises of earlier volumes, but they still generate considerable tension, and the way things ultimately work out isn't at all what the reader might expect.
