USATODAY.com - Dianne Wiest's daughter pleads to larceny   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-23)
Wiest, 18, entered a plea of guilty to petit larceny in Manhattan Criminal Court on Monday in exchange for a sentence of two days of community service and restitution of $150.
Wiest, whose mother was in court, will be allowed to do the community service in Florida where she will live.
Wiest and her companions, Lara Zieden, 19, and Leah Rucinski, 16, were each initially charged with second-degree robbery.

 September
Diane, played by Elaine Stritch (replacing Maureen O'Sullivan in the reshoot), is Lane's mother by Diane's first husband, who she left for a second man who abused Diane.
In what seems like a throwaway `Whose Afraid of Virginia Wolff' moment, it is revealed that Diane actually shot her husband and the story cooked up for the police and the trial was that the shooting was done by the underage Lane.
It is not entirely clear to what Diane owes her celebrity, but a couple touring the house with an interest in making an offer to purchase recognizes Diane's photograph as a person of celebrity with major contacts with Broadway and Las Vegas performers.

Shayne declares passionately that he's an artist, that he won't change to pander to the commercial--his goal is "transform men's souls"--and promptly gives away every ideal he's histrionically declared as fast as anyone will take them.
Diane Wiest is hilarious as the ridiculous Sinclair, speaking and moving as if she were an alcoholic Lady Macbeth who'd be king herself rather than any dopey husband.
Late to the first rehearsal, she intones, with terrible drama: "My pedicurist had a stroke!" (as he was doing her left foot, she thunders, "the pain was terrible").

Buchman's two daughters include Helen (Diane Wiest), whose own daughter played by Martha Plimpton is a high-school girl dating a house painter-cum-drag racer (Keanu Reeves), and whose 12-year-old son Gary (Leaf -now, Joaquin- Phoenix) has withdrawn into himself and his padlocked room.
A great scene with Keanu Reeves and Diane Wiest where the Keanu Reeves character is explaning to Diane Wiest what is wrong with her son.
Dianne Wiest as his older sister won another Oscar nomination and is just as good as she was in HANNAH AND HER SISTERS.

 Hannah and Her Sisters (1986)
A loyal supporter of her two aimless sisters Lee (Barbara Hershey) and Holly (Dianne Wiest), she’s also the emotional backbone of a family that seems to resent her stability almost as much as they depend on it.
But when Hannah’s perfect world is quietly sabotaged by sibling rivalry, she finally begins to see that she’s as lost as everyone else, and in order to find herself, she’ll have to choose -- between the independence her family can’t live with…and the family she can’t live without.
Allen’s dramas generally seem bland and uncompelling to me. Exceptions such as Crimes and Misdemeanors exist, and Hannah was definitely better than siblings such as September and Interiors, but I felt it remained somewhat thin and lackluster nonetheless.

The trouble is, in the first ten minutes here, the foundation of the story is incomplete and unexplained, requiring the viewer to take the setup on faith, rather than giving the story that follows a solid underpinning.
Sam is shown being kept up all night by the crying baby, feeding her, changing her diapers, apparently with only occasional advice from a reclusive neighbor (Diane Wiest).
In a rapid bit of montage, we fast-forward till the girl, Lucy, is seven--seven years in which Sam, with the mental capacity of a seven-year-old (he has trouble making change), never once runs into a problem in raising his daughter that would attract the attention of the authorities.

Diane Wiest is very under used and Laura Dern's character is too stereotypical to be believable.
In the end the movie just oozes sentimentality and throws in emotional content at you every ten to fifteen minutes just so you remember that you should be holding back the tears.
What you end up thinking however is that Sean Penn is a great actor who really wants to win an Oscar and he and everyone else involved in this production saw it as their big chance to get there hands of one of those gold statues.

Neither Jesse Martin nor Diana Wiest have the edge that was possessed by their predecessors and that is needed for the characters they portray.

With the assistance of her former secretary Sally (Dianne Wiest), Laurel attempts to start her own firm, but meets testosterone roadblocks every where she turns.
It becomes apparent that the only way Laurel is going to make any headway is to become a man. With the help of a female impersonator friend, Laurel creates the rich and powerful Robert Cutty, who becomes the talk of Wall Street.

Redford's talent is undiminished, and at the center of the film is his portrayal of Booker as a man who can get inside the heads and hearts of humans and animals alike.

According to a Spanish saying "you can tell a good day from its dawn." In movies, dawn means the opening credits, and with Woody Allen films, the plain fl and white words that precede the color images give you the familiar, comfortable feeling that it's going to be a good day.

While Blue Sky clearly wants to prove it can attract A-List talent, the result in ROBOTS is nearly two-dozen speaking characters -- a formidable amount of personalities to keep up with in just 90 minutes.
In addition to McGregor, Brooks, Kinnear, Tucci, and Broadbent, there are robots voiced by Halle Berry, Robin Williams, Drew Carey, Amanda Bynes, Jennifer Coolidge, Paul Giamatti, Dan Hedaya, D.L. Hughley, Jamie Kennedy, Diane Wiest, and Harland Williams...as well as Carson Daly and Conan O'Brien, playing robotic versions of themselves.
Of these, only a few -- Williams as a clunky nutcase named Fender, and Coolidge as an enormously-rumped matron -- make much of an impression at all.
