LONDON–London Mayor Dianne Haskett was returned to office by a landslide in a November 10 mayoralty contest which received nation-wide attention.
Haskett defeated Deputy Mayor Grant Hopcroft by 63.6% to 31.0% in one of the highest turnouts seen in a London municipal election in recent years.
A committed evangelical and member of London’s Metropolitan United Church, Haskett has won strong support not only from the evangelical Christian community, but from other faith groups and the broader community for her principled stands on a variety of moral and social issues and her efforts to promote reconciliation among different parts of the community.

Dianne Louise Haskett (born March 4, 1955) was mayor of London, Ontario, Canada from 1994 to 2000.
Haskett was born and raised in London's Kensal Park district north of Springbank Drive, a descendant of the pioneer Haskett family, one of the early Irish Protestant settlers in London and area.
Haskett completed her second Master's Law Degree in the Spring of 2005 from The George Washington University Law School in Washington, D.C. She also passed the Washington D.C. Bar exam and was sworn in as an attorney and member of the DC Bar in December, 2005.

While Haskett admitted that she only wrote down these points after learning that HALO would be seeking a proclamation for a July 1995 Gay Pride Weekend, she said she first conceived them 1-1/2 years before to avoid making a proclamation for an abortion rights rally.
Haskett felt that to either give up the practice of proclamations or to refer requests for them to the City Council would weaken her leadership position.
Haskett said she would be willing to issue a proclamation for a group that refused to hire gays and lesbians, but would not do so for one that similarly discriminated against fls, women or people with disabilities.

If you are from London then you would also well aware of the fact that municipally Londoners have welcomed social conservatism in both of the previous elections.
The expressed views of Mayor Dianne Haskett and that of CA Leader Stockwell day are strikingly similar.
They have even had similar experiences in dealing with accusations from certain groups, and in Mayor Haskett's case this actually polarized the city and ended up giving her a landslide victory a few years back.

The Tories are holding their nomination meeting in London Tuesday night and the nominee is expected to be Dianne Haskett, the former mayor.
