Gordon led coach Mike Anderson's Huskers to their most victories (56) in school history and a third berth in the NCAA World Series over the last five years for the '05 Big 12 Conference-co-champions (with Baylor).
Gordon recently walloped his 44th career home run (third in NU career history after playing just three seasons) and produced his 45th extra-base hit of the season as the Huskers outlasted Miami (Fla.) 6-3 for the NCAA Lincoln Super Regional title and trek to the World Series.
Gordon has helped the Huskers advance to two NCAA Regionals in the last three campaigns and a composite record of 139-54 (.720 winning percentage) and two Big 12 championships under Anderson and his staff.

Dick Gordon, former war correspondent for Canadian radio and current host of the popular public radio show The Connection, and former U.S. Surgeon General C. Everett Koop were among the esteemed public figures who gave talks on campus last month.
Gordon criticized some media coverage of the aftermath of Sept. 11, noting that one of the major broadcasting outlets immediately dubbed its coverage "America Rising." "You're not a cheerleader for the nation," he said.
Gordon's goals for the high-profile show, which is syndicated on 70 public radio stations, include making it "a little edgier, a little smarter, a little different." His aim is to "do an hour as close to the news of the day as we can."

Five years ago, Dick Gordon was in Taliban-controlled Kabul, Afghanistan, covering the factional fighting in the region as a reporter for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC).
Gordon has been in the vicinity of exploding shells more than once, "and very close to bullets that may or may not have been aimed at me -- not just in Afghanistan, but in Bosnia, Moscow, and other places," he says.
Gordon hosted The Connection in late June and early July, after longtime host Chris Lydon and producer Mary McGrath left the program in a dispute in March over WBUR's refusal to accept their demands for a financial stake in the show.

Gordon, a retired Navy Captain, received his wings as a Naval Aviator in 1953.
Gordon left the spacecraft for a planned 115-minute space walk, but he had to cut it short after 44 minutes because of difficulty maintaining his position in weightlessness without handholds or foot restraints, a valuable lesson for later space walkers.
Gordon and Conrad were back in space together on November 14th, 1969, on the Apollo XII Moon Mission.
