Dick Tracy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The character of Dick Tracy is a hard hitting, fast shooting, and supremely intelligent police detective who has matched wits with a variety of often grotesquely ugly villains.
Tracy's world is decidedly fl and white where the bad guys are sometimes so evil, their very flesh is deformed to announce their sins to the world.
Gould changed Tracy with the times, sometimes with mixed results as with the introduction of science fiction elements such as the two-way wrist radio which proved to be the first of a variety of personal wrist communicators and other futuristic gadgets provided by the eccentric industrialist, Diet Smith.

As it is, whenever Dick gets the least bit cozy with Tess, the sound of the two-way wrist radio (gadgets, America's true passion) is heard, summoning him to make war against crime instead, the archetypal case of noncoitus interruptus.
Known at first only as the Kid, the sole name he answers to, he saves Dick's life in the crime wars and is rewarded with a police badge and a certificate proclaiming him Dick Tracy Jr.
This is a Tracy for the Nineties, which is also why his profile cannot be that famous meat cleaver with a small, square bump on it (an epicleaver?).

Dick Tracy was a newspaper comic strip detective created by Chester Gould.
This movie has deconstructed the comic strip and reassembled it as a highly imaginative and very beautiful montage that has a limited, but extremely vivid palette of colors.
To a great extent, "Dick Tracy" is more of a love story than a gangster thrillah and it is hard to believe that Madonna loses out to Headley but that is consistent with the film's innocence/purity.

Tracy is the top-notch homicide detective for a generic 'berg that looks like both Manhattan and a brighter, lighter version of "Batman's" Gotham City, with everything painted in bold primary colors.
Tracy is better with a gun in his hand chasing a gangster down the street than with hearts and flowers.
On the whole "Dick Tracy" is a lot of fun, and fans of the offbeat may embrace it as a unique film amid a sea of movies that seem cloned from each other.

Dick Tracy is a no-nonsense, sharp shooting, and highly intelligent police detective who battles a variety of colorful villains in this vintage comic serial that is enjoyed by many to this day.

The Apollo 11 moon landing saw Dick Tracy return to earth and by the 70's Gould modernized Dick Tracy by giving him longer hair, a mustache and a hip new associate, Groovy Grove.

One of them, Flattop (William Forsythe), leaves a message on the wall of the building for the gangsters' biggest enemy, Dick Tracy (Warren Beatty), who at that moment is attending an opera with his girlfriend, Tess Trueheart (Glenne Headley).
His Tracy comes across as being unsure of himself, particularly in his attitude to the women in his life; it's that old cliché of being married to his job and having no time for his girlfriend, as Tess mopes about feeling neglected.
While Dick Tracy is lavishly designed, and the supporting cast are ideally chosen, its hero is a man out of time and the film suffers for it.
