Dickenson County is a county located in the state of Virginia.
Dickenson County, formed in 1880 from parts of Buchanan County, Russell County, and Wise County, is Virginia's youngest county.
In the county, the population is spread out with 22.10% under the age of 18, 8.90% from 18 to 24, 27.60% from 25 to 44, 26.90% from 45 to 64, and 14.50% who are 65 years of age or older.

Dickenson County was formed in 1880 from parts of Wise, Russell, and Buchanan Counties.
The County was named in honor of William J. Dickenson, a State Legislator from Russell County, who patroned the bill in the House of Delegates in 1880 to establish Dickenson as the 100th county in Virginia.
Dickenson County offers some of the best hunting in Virginia and is justly famous for its wild turkey, quail, grouse, rabbit, squirrel, and deer.

The Dickenson County Wireless Integrated Network (DCWIN) will provide wireless service to enhance local government services to citizens, enhance small business' ability to compete in world markets and give its citizenry affordable high-speed data transmission and high-speed Internet services.
A release from the county says this is the first countywide implementation of wireless communications in Virginia.
Dickenson County will create a "backbone" for services to be expanded beyond its boundaries, providing regional opportunities for neighboring counties and Southwest Virginia as a whole.

Since Dickenson County carried out a visioning process under a program sponsored by the Appalachian Regional Commission instead of the Take Charge process that other counties went through, TLT members were in a position to contribute their insights to both the advantages and disadvantages of that process.
A major goal for Dickenson County was to coordinate and build a technology initiative as part of a visioning process conducted this summer in Dickenson County by the Virginia Tech Center for Public Administration and Policy (CPAP).
