Today his father, Dickie Rock broke down in the witness box when he told the court his son had received a sentence over the last two years since he was arrested that he does not deserve because of his father's name and fame.
Richard Rock was arrested in a Dublin Hotel in June 1998 and charged with possession of heroin and allowing his car to be used to distribute the drug.
Dickie Rock said that his son had joined the initial Boyzone line-up, but left over a musical disagreement before the band hit the big time.

Dickie auditioned for the job and when he was accepted, the stage was set for one of the showband era's greatest acts.
The following year, Dickie sang three songs in the Irish Contest and finally broke through, being selected to represent Ireland in Eurovision with "Come Back To Stay." Although he would finished fourth in the voting, his record was a number one hit in Ireland and he returned to a hero's welcome.
Dickie's second decade started with him fronting his own band and although the dancing scene was changing, he maintained his popularity by beginning to move into the growing cabaret scene which was flourishing in Dublin and in some places around the country.

Blue Cheer was a San Francisco-based rock group of the late 1960s and early 1970s, who helped to pioneer heavy metal music.
Original personnel were singer/bassist Dickie Peterson, guitarist Leigh Stephens, and drummer Paul Whaley.
After Leigh Stephens was replaced by Randy Holden, formerly of Los Angeles garage rock band The Other Half, in 1968, Blue Cheer's style changed to a more commercial hard rock sound à la Steppenwolf or Iron Butterfly.

Dickie Rock & The Miami Showband - s/t LP (Hallmark HMA 233, UK 1971) ex/ex €25 Irish 60s beat band; this LP compiles singles released on Irish Pye between 1963-67 which range from beat to rock and roll to R&B to crooner ballads.
This is an excellent hard rock LP and has nothing to do with Jimmy Campbell or Liverpool Express, despite what Allmusic might tell you.
