DKR takes the racing aspect of Mario Kart 64, plops it into the middle of a free-roaming 3D world (a la Mario), and adds a few unique touches.
Being able to race in three vehicles (karts, hoverboats, and planes) allows for greater variety in the courses, which not only take place on the road but also extend to rivers, volcanos, and eventually outerspace (if you're lucky enough to get that far).
DKR has fixed that problem, but when it comes to the bosses, especially as you progress to the latter ones, it becomes a matter of patience and luck moreso than skill.

Diddy Kong puts the spotlight on Diddy Kong and it slips in plugs for two new characters in particular: Conker the squirrel and Banjo the bear.
The first thing I thought about when I heard about DKR (Diddy Kong Racing), I thought, "Oh boy, here comes Mario Kart part II." After playing the game, I'd have to say that DKR is derivative of Mario Kart, but It's not quite the same game.
DKR, which does not intially have a battle mode (you can unlock one in the game), does introduce something new to racing games: the adventure mode.

Diddy Kong Racing will forever be looked at as a kiddy title, and in some ways Rareware did go overboard on this one.
I've spent years playing this game as a child, and there is tons of races and a variety of bright optomistic characters.
There are 3 different vehicles you can race and battle with and several different maps 2 choose from.

Sadly, Diddy Kong Racing's Battle Mode, which is referred to as a "Challenge," is not as good as Super Mario Kart (Super NES) or Mario Kart 64.
When it's all said and done, Diddy Kong Racing is a very good game on its own right, but it doesn't quite compare to the multi-player action of Mario Kart 64.

Some of the course are pretty demanding, and many of the challenges as you progress through the game start to boarder on the impossible.

After beating all 4 levels you have to race a boss which is pretty tough.
The boss races seem impossible the 1st time, but you'll do it eventually (and be very satisfied and proud of your achievement!).
There is also a Trophy race where you race through all 4 tracks and must have the highest total score to win.
