The Cooper Temple Clause - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The quintet's name is thought to derive from the Cowper-Temple clause, a provision introduced by William Cowper-Temple, 1st Baron Mount Temple into the second reading of the Education Bill of 1870, which provided that no catechism nor denominational teaching of any kind should be included in the religious instruction given in rate-aided schools.
In September 2005, bassist Didz Hammond left the band to join ex-Libertine Carl BarĂ¢t in the band Dirty Pretty Things.

Though Kick Up the Fire benefited greatly from its subtle electronic effects, the six-piece band made clear that they were, first and foremost a loud, dangerous rock band.
To finish the show, the Coopers unleashed their three most fearsome songs on the crowd: "Panzer Attack," "Promises, Promises" and "Let's Kill Music." Especially potent was "Panzer Attack" (and with a title like that, it had to be).
Amidst pulsing strobe lights and military-like dance beats, Gautrey screamed so hard he looked ready to burst a neck vein, guitarist Dan Fisher thrashed across the stage like a madman and Hammond wrung his mike stand like it was a rubber chicken.

While it's a bit early to start using superlatives about The Cooper Temple Clause, their debut album is certainly one of the most assured and confident that I've heard, although not quite as original as they might like to think it is.
They hail from Reading, so the 'urban alienation' vibe so beloved by followers of Muse can be traced in their music; according to Fisher, the song 'Been training dogs' is a revenge fantasy on the denizens of Reading, who apparently gave The Clause 'a good kicking' from time to time.
In their publicity, Didz Hammond, the bassist, is recorded as saying that 'we wanted to make a classic album'.

Panzer Attack, perhaps the most vicious song on the album, was inspired by "being on the receiving end of violence", while the band's desire to explore rock's outer reaches is rooted in the blandness of popular British culture.
