Already before Easter in the rendering plant of Malchin brain samples of fallen sheep from 12 flocks of 8 local districts had been taken, one of which turned out to be positive for scrapie.
The identity and origin of the scrapie sheep could not be established, therefore prophylactically all 12 flocks had been put under quarantine and tested.
