  Cool Word: dieresis / diaeresis
dy-AIR-ih-sis] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- A dieresis is a special mark (two small dots) that is placed over the second of two vowels in a word to show that the vowel is pronounced separately.
You may have seen it over the "e" of "noel" and over the "i" of "naive." A dieresis can also be used to show that a vowel is not silent, as in the "e" of "Bronte." The basic character set used in this article does not allow us to show these diereses in position.
A dieresis can also be a short pause in a line of poetic verse that happens when the end of a word and the end of a metric foot come at the same moment.

 Learning Turkish !
Example of Turkish words with another origin: pardon (excuse me in French), pantalon (trousers in Spanish), saat (hour in Arabic) and telekomunikasyon (due to globalization).
See the illustration with those characters: u and o with dieresis "ö-ü", c and s with cedilla "ç-þ", i without the dot "ý" and g with tilde "ð;."
Notes regarding the Turkish characters: We wrote the accents of the words below in parentheses because the computer can have problem reading those characters if it is not configured for the Turkish language.

Note: In Spanish, the dieresis is only found on the U, and it can only precede an E or I. When a U is followed by a hard vowel, the W sound is automatic.
Remember that a U without dieresis + E or I just makes the G hard; the dieresis is what indicates that the U has its own sound.
Please note that this lesson is only a guideline for the Spanish that I know, which is Castilian Spanish.
