Concurrently Moebius also teamed with Gerd Beerbohm for 1982's Strange Music and 1983's Double Cut, both explorations of pure noise; meanwhile, with the solo album Tonspuren (also from 1983), Moebius clearly anticipated the emergence of techno.

From his early work with the pioneering Krautrock band Cluster to his later solo recordings, Dieter Moebius remained one of the most innovative and prolific voices in contemporary electronic music, anticipating movements from ambient to techno years before the fact.
By day a student at Berlin's Akademie Grafik, Moebius was moonlighting as a cook at an area restaurant when in 1969 he was befriended by Conrad Schnitzler, a key figure in local avant-garde circles, and invited to join Kluster, a band Schnitzler was forming with fellow underground artist Hans Joachim Roedelius.
The trio released their debut LP Klopfzeichen in 1970; in the wake of their third album, 1971's Kluster und Eruption, Schnitzler exited to pursue a solo career, and Moebius and Roedelius continued on as a duo, modifying the name to Cluster.

This disc is built upon an impressive concept — the tracks were culled from four hours of improvisation.
Cluster is a keyboardist duo, Moebius and Roedelius, and have been recording since 1969 when they embarked on their careers in the German group Kluster with former member Konrad Schnitzler.
Joining the Krautrock-electronic scene, Cluster have collaborated with a lot of other musicians, and have released fourteen albums as a duo--so they've been around awhile.

Two living legends, Cosmic Couriers directly from the kraut rock era, were about to get on stage: Michael Rother, who was involved for a short period of time in the very first incarnation of Kraftwerk, then guitar player and singer of pioneering noise-experimental band Neu!, and Dieter Moebius, one half of German electronic prime-movers Cluster.
With Teutonic punctuality, the masters appeared behind their equipment, and the time machine started to work: all of a sudden we were all taken back in the early 1970s, when Germany was the head country of the European music avantgarde.
Michael Rother, charismatic and smiling, worked on rhythms via his laptop, and grasped his guitar to shower the audience with endless waves of pure space rock riffs, while Dieter Moebius manipulated his synths and boxes to unleash melodic tunes and catchy beats.

After The Heat by Eno, Brian / Hans-Joachim Roedelius / Moebius, Dieter CD
AFTER THE HEAT is a collaboration between Brian Eno and the two members of the band Cluster (though on this release, they were billed by their actual last names).
German composers Dieter Moebius and Joachim Roedelius formed the synthesizer duo Cluster during the '70s krautrock boom, but only attracted wide attention outside their homeland when they joined forces with Brian Eno for the 1977 album CLUSTER AND ENO.
Several of the album's 10 pieces, particularly the turbulent "Oil" and "Foreign Affairs," emphasize Moebius' and Roedelius' Tangerine Dream-style analogue synthesizers, while the more reflective, piano-based "Luftschloss" and "The Shade" move toward the gentler ambient directions Eno was beginning to explore around this time.

Ground and Sky review - Dieter Moebius - Tonspuren
Dieter Moebius is one-half of Cluster, and while this is a broadly cast generalization, he tends to explore with tenser, less comfortable expressions relative to his partner, Hans-Joachim Roedelius.
Recorded at Conny Plank's studio (of course) in early '83, his Tonspuren is a mixed bag.
Things do pick up a tad as the album hits its middle point, though only a tad, with Moebius putting more effort into creating diverse textures within the tracks.
