Diffa is a town in southeast (An African river; flows into the South Atlantic) Niger, near that country's border with (A republic in West Africa on the Gulf of Guinea; gained independence from Britain in 1960; most populous African country) Nigeria, with a population of 23,600 (2004).
It is the administrative seat of the departement of Diffa.
In 2002, it was the center of the first military uprising in the country since President (additional info and facts about Tandja Mamadou) Tandja Mamadou instituted civilian rule and led to a crackdown by the government against the civilian press.

From the very beginning, the goal of the group was to enable people living with AIDS to continue their health coverage during the "gap" between employer-paid private insurance and Medicare coverage.
In fact, what was to become The Assistance Fund was known as the DIFFA Assistance Fund and it only had an advisory board.
In 1988, the DIFFA Assistance Fund, still a small cadre of determined people, received a generous donation through a venture grant from the United Way, which was specifically set up for first-time-out organizations, and the Fund was able to stand as an independent organization.

For four years, DIFFA (Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS) has been quietly—and not so quietly—holding a party called Dining by Design in New York and in the past two years the fund-raiser has been staged in several other cities in the United States.
Billed as "the Cannes of tabletop," an observation made by filmmaker John Waters, the event is an imaginative and entertaining display of round and oblong dining tables decorated to the hilt by a creative bunch of local designers.
Typically each DIFFA chapter that stages a Dining by Design event makes the tables available for viewing by the public at a nominal admission fee, usually $10, and each chapter holds a dinner party where table sponsors invite guests or sell tickets to friends to attend and dine at the table.

Boulama Ligari, a journalist with the private station Radio Anfani, was arrested by police officers in Diffa (1,500 km east of the capital, Niamey) on 27 August 2002.
The authorities did not provide an explanation for his arrest, but according to several local sources, the journalist was reportedly arrested because of his reports about a soldiers’ mutiny in Diffa in early August.
Police officers have also been posted in front of the radio station’s offices in Diffa, but have not prevented Radio Anfani from broadcasting.
