The difficulty level controls various conditions in games; these conditions include the aggressiveness of AI characters and the amount of weapons, power-ups, and other items provided to the player(s).
The Atari 2600 had two difficulty switches directly on the console itself; there was one for each player, with two possible settings.
On easier levels the computer players are less aggressive on researching upgrades and improvements and their attack parties are composed of few units.

Every time I select my difficulty level, I wonder if the developers of the game have once again failed to take advantage of how many difficulty levels they’ve included in their own game.
The problem I can’t seem to understand is why games with 4 or 5 or 6 difficulty levels progress immediately from an 'easy' AI that lays down and dies to a 'standard' AI that assaults so furiously that you can’t figure out why there’s a 'hard'.
In a great many video games, the perfect difficulty level is only a hair's breadth away from one that the developers have included in the game.

Actually, to be completely true it DO have three difficulty settings, normal, nightmare and hell difficulty, although for most players it is not really a true difficulty setting since they are meant to play once you manage to play the whole previous difficulty at ease since your character level is too high.

the mythic skull is on the sacred icon level on legendry supposedly when u find the skull it should unlock a new difficulty level called mythic which is supposed to be harder than legendry.
It's not a real difficulty, all it does is make enemies tougher in that level from what I hear.
Me and a friend played the level today and beat it, however we couldn't find the skull (Yes, we were playing on Legendary).

The problem with difficulty in RPGs is that you can always level your character in order to overcome any "difficulty".
I mean, a challenge to a level 5 character in KOTOR would be a cakewalk to a level 10, and this remains true all the way up to level 20, which is the only level you can really balance for [in KOTOR's case].
The Devs can make some assumptions, basically guesstimates as to what level a person will be at a certain stage, but in the end, they can't make things too hard or else they will turn off the casual player who doesn't want to kill every monster and do every quest.

I'd mainly like to know if difficulty level selection has any effect on skewing player stats in any way.
So I guess the question really is: does difficulty level affect my team's players' performances relative to the computer teams' players' performances or does the variation in "challenge" come as the result of changes in other factors?
I don't know about the trades but playing on the hardest level is much more difficult to sign FA than the hard level.

At the higher difficulty levels it gets a nice bonus; at Deity level the max turns an AI civ stays in anarchy is 2, almost as good as being Religious.
Higher difficulty levels lower this number, which is based on the optimal number of cities per world size which is also listed.
The AI bonuses are quite strong at the higher difficulty levels, apart from the other ones mentioned elsewhere (knowing where all the units are, knowing where all current and future resources will be, etc.) The fun, of course, comes in beating it even with all these bonuses.

In Texas, for public school solo contests, we have a list that the students must select from, and those are divided into 3 classifications, 1 being the hardest, 3 the easiest, but there is a great discrepancy in the difficulty level there.
The only consideration for difficulty level at that point is at the state contest, they award an outstanding soloist medal in each category, and there difficulty is taken into consideration.
The frustrating part about ratings for me is the wide variance in what constitutes a certain difficulty level.

You're supposed to be able to change the difficulty level on the fly, so it wouln't matter either way.
The big payoff for more difficult completion nowadays seems to be "unlockables" (like all the cool movie clips, photos and documents you're awarded for finishing the missions in Brothers In Arms on the various settings), but I tend to agree with you.
We tried to make it so that people will find a difficulty level they're comfortable with, but are able to switch if they can't get past a particular fight.

ASTA levels are based on technique, position, bow techniques, etc. The concerti you mention I'm getting the impression are the bridge concerti to the BIG ROMANTIC concerti like the Tchaikovsky and Beethoven and Brahms.
By the way, one violinist's difficulty is another one's piece of cake.
We each have different strengths and weaknesses so that means that the levels are not one size fits all.

In addition to scaling to your party's average level, most of the zones allow you to choose your level of difficulty.
I don't know about "choosing" a difficulty level, but it certainly starts to ramp up.
Bah, I can't find the specific thread but one of the devs stated that you have to complete the zone once on standard difficulty to be able to choose the harder ones.

After my first time, i started playing the most difficult level...and the second and third times were not so difficult, probably because you know something about the game and you have better strategies.
I won't make fun of anyone playing at lower difficulty, but I will be thinking you are something less than a man (or woman) at all times.

In my experience, dynamic difficulty seems to serve as a way of making a game easier for those who are having difficulty...
If the difficulty is cranked up, so as to make the game more challenging, the player is eventually confronted with a wall of sorts -- Which the game takes down as soon as the player has difficulty with it.
As an example, we could change the difficulty based on the precision of the player's input.

Getting the difficulty setting right is far more complex than just adding health and taking away ammo (which, by playing these mods you mention, becomes all too obvious)
An odd thing I find is after going through the games on the easiest setting, when I increase the difficulty, I skip normal and go straight to hard.

First Person Shooters: If you are dominating everyone else, the game could decrease your ammo (requiring you to pause and reload more), decrease the chances of finding ammo/weapons/armor/etc., increase the speed it takes to deplete your health, and decrease your rapid fire rate.
The game could increase guest generation difficulty, rating increasion (is that a word?) difficulty, and slow down the research rate.
It assesses ur frags (probably the frag/death ratio) and changes the difficulty level accordingly if u select the option for it.

Objectively, the exam difficulty is on a par with A+ or Security+.
WIP: A+ I followed a link from CF (sorry I don't remember what one) but it did say that the Linux+ was of a difficulty level far exceeding the other '+' certs.
