  Digbeth - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Modern-day Digbeth is currently dominated by old factories and a flened Victorian railway viaduct which is still in use, although as with much of Birmingham's Eastside is currently undergoing redevelopment.
Digbeth is also home to Birmingham's coach station which is operated by National Express, Britain's largest express coach network.
As well as the Custard Factory, Digbeth is home to The Sanctuary nightclub (formerly The Digbeth Institute) which was a prominent venue during the early days of the rave music scene and underwent a revival in 1998 when superclub Godskitchen began to promote a weekly event there.

It is in the Digbeth area of Birmingham, just south of the city centre.
A major interchange on Britain's coach network, it is the largest coach station owned by National Express with services to destinations through Great Britain, as well as Ulsterbus services to Belfast and Eurolines services to Dublin and Poland.

The current church (begun around 1290) was extensively re-built in the 1870s, retaining some original walls and foundations.
A few other buildings from the medieval and Tudor periods survive, among them The Old Crown public house in Digbeth, the 15th century Saracen's Head public house and Old Grammar School in Kings Norton and Blakesley Hall in Yardley.
The Anchor Inn (1797), is also nearby in Digbeth.

Sometime later in the late 1820s the Griffin name was dropped and James Nichols becomes the sole proprietor of the Digbeth Street operation.
Most interesting is a reference to the "Late James Nichols." The address in Digbeth corresponds to the address listed for Griffin and Nichols in the early nineteenth century.
This likely means that upon James Nichols' retirement or perhaps his death, the company that began as Thomas Griffin and Co. was purchased by T and A Longmore.

Tuns in Digbeth when they married in 1906.
Personally, I think it's one of the most interesting of Digbeth's pubs because it's a very good example of the pre-terracotta revolution of Birmingham.
The original pub can be traced back to 1786 but the building that stands on the site today, and the one kept by William and Janet Maddox, was rebuilt in 1889.
