DigiPen also offers a unique environment compared to most other univerisities: You stay in the same room, with the same people, all day, all year, and you have the same classes, with the same teachers, and usually have very similar interests (most are interested in things such as technology, science-fiction/fantasy, anime, and of course games).
DigiPen is also comprised of students that come here from all over the country with roughly 80% of the student body coming from out of state, so the student body has a wide variety of different kinds of people.
DigiPen is open from 8am to 10pm, Monday through Saturday, and there are some students that are here when we close at 10pm and also come on Saturday, although it is not a regular thing that all students do everyday.

Raph’s Website » Water Cooler Games - DigiPen forces Slamdance Reinstatement
DigiPen gets to do this sort of thing because most students see it as an acceptable trade-off to attend arguably the best school for a game programmer’s (I can’t speak for the artists) education.
In the end, one of the biggest reasons these schools make students sign away some degree of control of their IP (this I had to do on paper for admission) is because the schools want to use student projects to promote the school.
That DigiPen is wielding whatever IP rights they may have, in spite of the clear statement that the students are trying to make, is just poor business on their end.

DigiPen is the only accredited school offering a four-year degree in making video games, and it's fast becoming the Harvard among joystick-clenching students fresh out of high school.
But because DigiPen goes to great lengths to dissuade all but the most serious applicants, only 500 people ultimately compete for the 200 available slots.
That's why DigiPen tries to scare off students who aren't serious with a drab registration package devoid of pictures and chock full of information about the lineup of required programming and math classes.
