It is the video transcoder's aim to convey an input compressed video stream to the output link without the need of fully decoding and re-encoding.
However, few or more network links, to which individual users are connected, might not be able to support any of the high performance video streams due to congestion reasons or network constraints, so that an interface between two ends is needed for an achievable throughput.
The aim of this project is to attain all three types of video transcoding algorithms and combine them in a way that an ultimate interconnection is achieved among diverse types of communication networks, and multimedia terminals.

Patent 6084631: High-speed digital video serial link
The packaged digital video data signals comprise a source address code for identifying an address origin of the digital video data signal, a destination address code identifying a final address destination of the digital video data signal, a priority code identifying a priority of the transmission, and digital video data.
The communication link 101 between the main processor 100 and the primary hub 104 is preferably two twisted pairs of wires, with one pair being used for transmissions from the main processor to the primary hub and the other pair used to transmit from the primary hub to the main processor.
The three spare bits of the fourth byte in the control packet are used in the data packet as the upper three bits of an 11 bit word used to indicate the length of the data being transmitted.

Now they are extending the digital signals all of the way into businesses and homes by converting the telephone networks from "telephone service" to "digital service." These new networks will provide you with end to end connections of binary or digital bit streams at various speeds.
Most of the digital circuits in use today are available either as special services from the telephone company or provided through private networks of microwave, fiber optic or satellite links.
Digital services are making this easier than ever because you only need to meet one common interface regardless of the type of information you transmit.

Digital Packet Video Link is a new video standard from VESA.
Unlike previous technologies, and in order to save bandwidth, only portions of the screen that are modified are sent via this link.
The DPVL standard is aimed to mobile and wireless hardware.

VESA’s Digital Packet Video Link Standard Defines High Level Video Stream Protocol for Enhanced Display Content   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-15)
DPVL decouples the video transmission rate from the display device’s refresh rate, resolving the bandwidth problem and allowing high data content and cascaded monitors to be updated efficiently
The DPVL standard defines video packet formats for meta data, which must be embedded in the video stream.
The standard also includes video packet structures that enable functional extensions and add flexibility to the video interface, along with a capability management scheme for negotiating protocol parameters between a host and a monitor, and a monitor control program that defines a set of commands that enhance the video stream protocol.

Other packets from other calls race upon these circuits as well, making the most use of each track or path, quite unlike the circuit switched calls that occupy a single single path to the exclusion of all others.
Packet Video is promising video clips at 60Kbs over conventional circuit switched cellular radio channels, indeed, they say they are platform independent, that is, their technology will work over whatever radio technology a carrier is using.
But if he maintained that packet could not be substituted for circuit switching in the PSTN because of call quality, well, that man would be right, especially for the times.

 Digital Video
In total, the new digital television standard is composed of 18 individual specifications for a variety of resolutions, refresh rates, aspect ratios and scanning methods (progressive versus interlaced).
The primary differences between standard definition digital televisions and high definition models are the resolution and aspect ratio, although there are standard definition formats that incorporate the wide 16 by 9 ratio.
The major issue in digital video is the disk space it takes up, and the corollary issues of transmission, throughput and display.

My-ESM - Display makers propose successor to Digital Visual Interface spec
Called the Digital Packet Video Link, the new format would use a packet data approach to transmit a variety of multimedia and high-resolution protocols to flat-panel screens.
The Digital PV Link would attach a header to each data packet being sent to the display, allowing control of multiple screens, higher-resolution displays, improved encryption, the handling of mulitple multimedia inputs, error correction, scaling for different pixel densities, and operation independent from a specific operating system or panel architecture.
As the make-up of the DVI 2.0 spec evolves, doubt as to the overall merits of the original standard was still evident at the SID symposium.
