Digital Visual Interface - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The digital visual interface or digital video interface ( DVI) is a video connector designed to maximize the visual quality of digital display devices such as flat panel LCD computer displays and digital projectors.
When the source is also a digital device (such as a computer), this can lead to distortion if the samples are not taken at the centre of each pixel, and in general the crosstalk between adjacent pixels is high.
The data format used by DVI is based on the PanelLink™ serial format devised by the semiconductor manufacturer Silicon Image Inc. This uses Transition Minimized Differential Signaling.

 CODATA 2002 Program
Digital preservation is now of concern to many; it is the cultural heritage communities, business, and governments who are setting the agenda and scoping the problem.
It emphasized "the principle of free exchange of views and data for scientific research and education" and, expressing its opposition against a new type of legal right in addition to the copyright, stated that caution should be exercised in dealing with the international trend toward such legislation.
This entails making up data or results (fabrication), changing or misreporting data or results (falsification), and using the ideas or words of another person without giving appropriate credit (plagiarism)-all strike at the heart of the values on which science is based.

'The Selection, Appraisal and Retention of Digital Scientific Data: the ERPANET / CODATA workshop', Ariadne Issue 39
She noted that the reuse of observational data in astronomy was important for optimising the scientific return on large projects.
So while bioinformatics data are almost all digital and are kept in universally accessible data stores, the vast majority of species and specimen data are not yet in digital form, often being held in physical data stores that are not easily accessible, e.g.
Kevin looked at a survey of the use of data sets in the UK Data Archive, noting that a majority of use (around 60%) was concentrated on a fairly low proportion of the collection (around 10%) and he thought that a large percentage of data would most probably never be used.

 Digital Data Gathering
In a digital recording of music, video, or hard drive information, the data itself is not recorded; rather, a series of specific measurements are recorded as numbers in a table.
Because of these different protocols for data, it is not possible to connect a parallel port device to a Mac with a simple adapter such as the type we use on our monitor port to connect a PC monitor (usually).
So, the data must be converted from an original value into a voltage, and the voltage must be converted from analog, continuously variable data to digital, numerical data.
