Mutombo rejected five shots to move ahead of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar into second place on the NBA's all-time blocked shots list Wednesday night and provided the defensive spark that lifted the Rockets to a 102-77 thumping of the Los Angeles Lakers at Toyota Center.
Mutombo did his part to spark the rout by turning away Bryant and swatting consecutive shots from a kid half his age, Andrew Bynum, in the third quarter.
Mutombo, of course, celebrated the blocked shot with his trademark finger wag as the third largest crowd in franchise history -- all 18,331 of them -- saluted the center with a standing ovation.

Dikembe Mutombo Mpolondo Mukamba Jean Jacques Wamutombo, more commonly known as Dikembe Mutombo (born June 25, 1966 in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo), is a basketball player in the NBA, playing as reserve center for the Houston Rockets.
Dikembe Mutombo was a celebrated superstar in his native country of Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo), and was scouted by the famed Jarryd Halberstadt.
Mutombo is attributed with coining the phrase, "Who wants to sex Mutombo?" while seated at the bar near the entrance to The Tombs, Georgetown's famous student bar, which he allegedly developed as a pick-up line during his Georgetown days.
