The character and his cannibalistic acts were made even more famous when adapted to film, though the original Red Dragon adaptation, Manhunter, never states or implies Lecter's cannibalism.

Originally, Nicholas Locarno, (also played by 'McNeill Robert Duncan',) a Starfleet Academy cadet who had been expelled in the episode "The First Duty" of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" (1987), was to have been the person that Captain Janeway released from prison to help track down the Maquis ship.
Rather than do that, the producers created the character of Tom Paris, who shares a similar back story as Nick Locarno (both had been cashiered out of Starfleet having caused the death of another officer).
It had vibrant characters, unique ideas, and was the building block for setting the stage for the other series and the later movies.

Most of the characters are either stupid overall, or incompetent in their chosen field-handicaps that may be thrown out the window when the creator needs another deus ex machina card.
With no real art, a corpselike story, characters that couldn't be interesting if our lives depended on it and writing that couldn't go anywhere but up, having the creator 'brag' about his fans in the comic itself almost feels like a slap in the face.
Yeah, the sprites are a bit kitchy and sometimes the limited visual range limits the coherency of the story.

Around the same time that I was pondering a useful-but-small program to illustrate the concept, I noticed that I had been on the road quite a bit (teaching my Perl courses all over the US), and had fallen behind on my favorite comic strip, Dilbert.
Line 18 mangles this value in $_, replacing all dangerous characters (double-quote, less-than, greater-than, and ampersand) with their entity equivalents.
I use this quite a bit below, so it was easier to write a subroutine to set it all up at once.

I've heard the story dozens of times about somebody rolling out a new policy, thinking it sounds too much like a Dilbert cartoon and then saying, "Ok, forget it, it sounds too much like a comic strip." I think the threat of being mocked in the comic strip has a dampening effect.
But if you caught it on a Dilbert cartoon and tacked it the door, then they know at least two people thought it was a bad idea--and probably more, because the comic comes out of people's suggestions.
Just yesterday, in fact, I had Dilbert get fired, but you won't see that for a few months in the actual newspaper.

I must say I was also a bit disappointed that the author suggested incense and oils not readily available in my area, but conveniently available through her store by mail order.
It also conveys a bit of wicca's history, and while Amber K's unbroken tradition slant is not one that I personally ascribe to, she can be credited for noting when there are conflicting opinions on certain details so that readers are at least aware of them.

It seems she's stuck in rather a rut, and all her main characters are becoming almost carbon copies of each other.
The characters do have a healthy appreciation of beer (even though they end up driving all the way to Canada to get it, instead of getting someone to buy them some good old hometown Miller or Pabst or Schlitz).
