Rana has been awarded MBE for his contribution to the economic regeneration of the city of Belfast through the development of hotels, restaurants, fashion shops and modern office accommodation.
Diljit Rana has set up a charitable trust of Rs.50 million for a school and a college named Taxila, in his native village Sanghol, near Chandigarh.

Elevated to the House of Lords in 1992, the Lord Cooke of Islandreagh, Victor Cooke was born in 1920 and educated in Marlborough College before going on to gain a MA in mechanical sciences from Trinity College, Cambridge.
The son of the 2nd Baron Glentoran, PC, KBE, and the late Lady Diana Wellesley, daughter of the 3rd Earl of Cowley, he was educated at Eton College and then Grenoble University France.
Formally sponsored by Lord Alderdice and the Liberal Democrat Asian peer Lord Dholakia, Indian born Diljit Singh Rana was elevated to the House of Lords in 2004.

Lord Rana, originally from the Punjab, came to Northern Ireland in 1966 and later founded Andras House Limited, a company now employing over 300 staff.
Lord Rana received an honorary degree from the University of Ulster in 1999 in recognition of his contribution to prosperity in Belfast.
In March 2004 he was appointed the first ever Honorary Indian Consul in Northern Ireland and in June 2004 was formally introduced into the House of Lords as Lord Rana, Baron of Malone, in the County of Antrim.
