The smaller interval from root to third in the D chord is called a minor third, and the chord is D minor.
The dominant seventh chord is useful to composers because of the fact that it is a major chord with a very strong sound, that also includes a tritone between the third and seventh of the chord.
In a diatonic context, the third of the chord is the leading-tone of the scale, which has a strong tendency to pull towards the tonal center, or root note, of the key.

The diminished fifth is part of the strong sense of resolution possible in the progression from the dominant seventh to the tonic.
The diminished seventh chord comprises frequencies that are equally spaced when considered on a logarithmic axis, and thus divides the octave into four logarithmically equal portions.
In a twelve tone equal tempered tuning, a diminished chord has 3 semitones between the third and fifth, 3 between the root and third, and 6 between the root and fifth.

This technique is extremely common, particularly since the classical period, and has lead to further innovative uses of the dominant seventh chord such as secondary dominant, extended dominant, and substitute dominant chords.
While the dominant seventh chord is typically built on the fifth (or dominant) degree of a major scale, the minor seventh chord is built on the second, third, or sixth degree.
Chords not formed from thirds are named similarly for the interval used, thus a chord made from two fourths on top of each other is quartal.

That may be true when you are trying to recover diminished value from your own insurance company as the "at-fault" driver, but it is not true when you are claiming diminished value as the innocent party.
“Diminished value” is the term given to the automatic decrease in value caused to your vehicle by virtue of the fact that it has been involved in an accident “ no matter how perfectly it has been repaired.
The bottom line is that if you are the at-fault driver trying to recover against your own insurer for the diminished value caused when you crashed into someone else, your ability to recover the diminished value is dictated by the insurance contract provided it is not violating the public policy of the state.

Schoenberg begins his explanation with a diminished triad on II in C minor; this chord is transformed to a secondary dominant, then to a secondary dominant seventh chord, and then to a secondary dominant ninth chord.
In the same manner as the diminished seventh chord, the augmented triad belongs to several distinct tonalities, three in major and three in minor, and its pitches are potential leading-tones.

Obviously, there are diminished chords within the diminished scale (duh), but those chords, like the diminished scale itself, are so symmetrical that they leave us fighting the "pattern" sound if we try to use them as material for lines.
These four chords together contain all the tones of the E diminished scale, so by using just the chord tones of these four chords, lines could be built which would be based on diminished harmony without the sound of just "running the scale".

 Sonic Glossary: Interval
Diminished and augmented intervals occur less frequently than the other three, and happen usually when the music to which they belong is in a style that we call chromatic.
The diminished third is slightly narrower than the minor third, so let us hear minor followed by diminished [Example 3e].
This is because when a third (to take the example we have just used) is "squeezed" and becomes diminished, it actually crosses a borderline and enters the normal space of the second.

Generally, in music, a diminished chord is a chord which has a diminished fifth in it.
More specifically, it is a three-note chord (a diminished triad) consisting of a minor third and diminished fifth above the root - if built on C, a diminished chord would have a C, an E flat and a G flat.
A diminished chord, as I’m sure you’re aware, consists of the root, the minor (or diminished) third AND the diminished fifth.

Fully diminished chords are intersting in that the four notes which form them, are all the same interval apart, a minor third.
You may sometimes see a diminished chord refered to as just 1 b3 b5, this is a straight diminished chord, it functions much the same as a fully diminished chord and is easier to voice, but gives a less complete sound in my opinion, due to only containing one tri tone.
See how the D diminished works, it creates tension, and when the slide to F dim begins you are tricked into thinking, albeit briefly, that a resolution is on its way, but the chord slides to another dim chord, F dim, same notes just a different order, this increases the tension even more.

The basis of the diminished value insurance claim is the duty of the insurance carrier to restore the owner of a damaged vehicle to the same position they were in before the accident.
By that stage of their existence, the existing parts in the vehicle are worn, and not as good as the imitation foreign parts, and in many cases, the repairs actually are an improvement for older cars.
The issue in proving your diminished value insurance case is to FIRST hire a professional to identify the parts, and then to figure out HOW MUCH the market will punish you for having those parts in your repaired vehicle.
